Yeah, there is. Heck I could offer the choice for the old theme too (In fact the more clever might have noticed me playing with the new theme last night wink ) However, I find it easier to maintain one theme that doesn't make anyone's eyes bleed.

I am thinking that including the buttons for the login (maybe even search) etc in the blue bar below the grey one (like it is here in the forums) would really look nice and consistent...

Yes, we'll get to them all eventually, not to worry.

Wonderful, especially the new navigation tabs (and the logo of course)! I really like it (as well as the former one wink)!

Re: The new site design is...

Don't get too comfortable, as things may change here and there... I just want to stress that.  Over the coming weeks, I hope to work with neotuli and Cactus on designing a consistent appearance across all of the Arch websites (home, bbs, wiki, etc.).  Right now, I have 3 classes and a couple of paid projects on the go, so I personally won't be able to contribute much until next weekend, but I'm glad to see the new headers in place and hopefully everyone will agree that the site is in a state that is more usable for the time being.

Again, I'd just like to take a moment to thank both Cactus and neotuli for their much-needed assistance!

Re: The new site design is...

Here's my customization of the theme. I modded the background image, the logo and some of the CSS to tone down the bright turquoise-blue and white look. The original files are replaced by local, modified versions via an html proxy as they are downloaded, so the attached thumbnails you see below are of working webpages ... not just mock-ups.

In the screens the turquoise-blue links are new (unvisited) and the grayish ones are visited.

Anyway, just my take.

Re: The new site design is...

Personally, even though I think the new design and logo is great, I like the old design and logo better. The dark brown/grey of the page design is a little too dark I think. It stands out too much from the light background and is a little hard on the eyes when browsing the forum for a lengthy time. The only thing I don't like about the logo is the oval shape at the bottom. It reminds me of a type of ceremonial hat of some kind. Although, the version of the logo for fluxbox looks totally cool. I agree with a previous post, the old logo has a more 3D-ish look to it, and seemed to represented the real definition of the word "arch" better. That's just my opinion, so don't take it to heart. My tastes are usually a lot different than the norm. : )

I agree. And i'm kinda sorry to say, but there's no way that i would ever even concider using this new logo as k-menu icon... And once again... That's just my opinion, so don't take it to heart.

Re: The new site design is...

In overall I think the new design is nice, but I find that the forum is mostly just gray and dull. It's nice that the post "headers" are using different colors for every second post, but can't you spice it up with some colors?

yep, I like the blue better. Gray just makes it look boring. +1 for this vote. I just find it very hard on my eyes when I have to look at something with such monotone colors. Colors break things up, focuses the eye. JMHO

scroll to the middle of a forum page and don't have the bottom or top of page in view and tell me what you see? I see all shades of gray and black. Forget the blue words, u don't even notice them.

Let's agree to disagree then (not that surprising for a discussion about colors).

I just vote for colorful... no need to be 'such flashy colors', as u put it.

I will admit, my opinion doesn't matter. many people have already pointed out the fact that I am a 2 month long standing member who shouldn't have a say. I will not disagree to this at all, since that's exactly what I am. But, I do like to say what I am thinking, sue me! smile

edit: being vocal is probably my biggest downfall. I did not mean to offend anyone.

Buh?  Since when did registration date matter?  If there are people telling you to shut up because you've only been here 2 months, that's unacceptable behaviour.

Re: The new site design is...

on another note, i just figured out how to change the icon for the menubar bookmark thingy.

U need delete all the old cache BS out of firefox and then reboot. For some reason if u don't reboot the old icon sticks around no matter what I tried. Must be something about the /tmp directory not being deleted until a reboot?

never thought of rebooting, that's not normal behavior for a linux machine. roll

Please use subtle colours. I'm fine with the current grey, but something like the bright blue some days ago was a pain for my eyes.

Yeah, the new design make Arch looks more professional, and is no surprise, I had stated since the very first day with the old design that I didn't liked it. But now, this one looks professional and with style.

Actually your wallpaper makes think that the logo looks better on a dark background... perhaps a dark header would be cool...
