Re: The new site design is...

As everyone else said awesome job, I want to throw my two sense into this and say, I think the blue bar at the top is excellent!

Re: The new site design is...

I just got back to work after the weekend was over, and had the forums loaded in a Firefox tab that's been sitting there all weekend.   Since it hadn't been touched, it was still the old layout.

I hit refresh.

I was wowed by the stark change - this really does look awesome. big_smile

Re: The new site design is...

Love it, it's plain, keeps to the kiss (which is, not unexpectedly, my unfavorite way)
The css-only approach is really into this time, good thing to see arch following it (Don't know if the previous design was like that, didn't check)
And it even almost validates, there seems to be only 1 error

Error Line 334, Column > 80: XML Parsing Error: xmlParseEntityRef: no name.

Long story short: Great job!

Hey guys, here's the funny thing. We have people who do some work, thankless work, and we have people who sit here and complain. "It could be better" is the battle cry of the complacent. It's like those fat men who sit on their couch eating nachos and yelling at football players. Those who can't "do" will watch and complain.

So I am waiting, U got the goods then pass it on so somebody else can learn how to change things for the better.

How did you happen to associate me with that quote by Phrakture?

- I have not complained.
- I have never sat on my couch eating nachos (or tacos) yelling at football players.
- I am definitely not fat.
- I did not say I could do 'better', but I did do 'different'.
- I provided multiple alternative samples.

Here's another:

I find it fantastic! Very stylish smile

Re: The new site design is...

Just viewed the site at work on windows I.E. It does look good. but better in linux (opera and ff). It really grows on you! Very clean and proffessional. The lighter grey bars in the threads are much better! Thanks for the hard work guys!

edit:
It's no big deal for me cause everything is perfect on linux, but just to let you guys know, Windows I.E. 6.0 doesn't seem to like something about the main bar at top. At the left side it's cut off.

Re: The new site design is...

Yeah I found IE at work to cause some problems with the design.  The top nav bar seemed to cut off some posts as well, and the spanking new logo was only a tiny fleck of blue.  Some avatars are messed up too.  It just made it hard for me to surf at work! smile

Is the favicon(?) going to be updated to the new logo. The little logo in the address bar?

Yeah, as i said some posts back, i have the same problem, it looks weird at work and sometimes you cant see what ppl write cause of the bar being over the actual post sad

Re: The new site design is...

I suppose it looks like crap on IE because IE 6 doesn't support PNG transparency. Talk about advanced web browsers hmm

You have to tell me why "A simple lightweight linux distribution" in the logo is blurred. neutral

I've wondered that myself... all the other text on my Arch screen is sharp and clear.  No biggy, but still wondering about it.

Re: The new site design is...

Wow! I just missed a month from using arch and now we have a new logo and a new site design. I miss the old one. It feels cozy.
I must say though, the guys (whoever were responsible. Im clueless.) did a very good job with the new design. It looks elegant. Clap. Clap. Clap. smile

I am guessing that the text below the logo was made in svg (or any other vector format) and later generated to png. It usually blurs the result a bit and it should be easy to fix by creating the text in a raster graphics editor, like for example GIMP.

Re: The new site design is...

I guess they simply used DejaVu Sans Condensed with hinting full, which is a crap font

Re: The new site design is...

surprised no one has posted a screenshot of what it looks like in IE6.  I'd post one but I don't have access to IE6 to see for myself.  I don't even know why I want to see it.. maybe I just want a chuckle at the lack of PNG transparency in IE6 as I remember cursing at when designing sites.

If IEs4linux / wine is ok, here goes:
- IE 5.0
screenshotie50pa4.th.png
- IE 5.5
screenshotie55eh0.th.png
- IE 6
screenshotie6kg8.th.png
- IE 7
screenshotie7la0.th.png

It looks like the problem has been solved OR IEs4linux doesn't use the same renderer.
