Well, hummingbirds are small fast and light.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird  or  =====>(Archilochus colubris)
it's a stretch, but arch is in there.

Re: Name for new 0.7 release: ORCA

Let's throw some propositions in here (at least maybe they will be inspiration for some other good names):
Prophecy, Scout or Recon (reconnaissance) - because new release will include newest technologies from the Linux world (kernel, x, etc.)
Starfish - according to http://www.fact-index.com/s/st/starfish_galaxy.html it's a "twisted, distorted galaxy with a looping arch" - a good summary of last problems with gnome, alsa and gcc 3.4 :-)
Artifact - because so many new users recently discovered this great distro.
Apollo - famous archer ;-) and according to Homer's Iliad (http://www.bookrags.com/notes/il/CHR.htm): "Trojan supporter, a deity, son of Zeus and Leto, brother of Artemis. Patron god of arts and archery. God of prophecy. Also associated with the sun. He actively fights with and inspires the Trojans throughout the epic. He continues to support the Trojans in Virgil's Aeneid." - you know, Troy is in the movies now (free marketing :-))....
BTW here you can find some other famous archers too http://www.archeryhaven.com/archers.html :-)
Genesis - "the search for origin" - and symbol of arch simplicity (?)
Vortex - from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - "a machine that destroys your soul by showing you what your place in the universe really is" - such a nice name lol

EDIT: Some names in connection with 0.7:
Q or Spy (007 Bond)
Borg (7 of 9 - "Resistance is futile" :-))
Samurai (Seven Samurai)
Uranus (7th planet)

archie? sorry - dunno who's "archie bunker", but this reminds me of the good old comics. If that's what's meant, yeah, why not? Archie's a kid - still experiencing growing pains as well. And bonus-  "Arch" is in "Archie"!!!

Re: Name for new 0.7 release: ORCA

fairy tale / magic ::: 7 is concidered a magical number and frequents most fairy-tales... (and this distro is so good its like its taken out of a fairy-tale too...)

Circle ::: 7 is the one number which cannot be divided evenly into the circle

360 / 7 = 51.428571

Pyramid :::The dividend from the division of the circle by the number seven is intriguingly close to the outer angle of the Great Pyramid: 51 degrees and 51 minutes.

stuff about the circle and the pyramid taken from : http://www.themystica.com/mystica/artic … seven.html

No no no!  The only thing you're giving us are names for version 0.8!   We need somethings that's a little more "0.7".  big_smile

Seriously though, why not something like 'arpeggio', 'wombat', or 'dunga'?

Re: Name for new 0.7 release: ORCA

I say we call it "The Stallman in drag" release.. nah, not really. I still say a naming scheme is the way to go, Norse Gods fx. this could be Freja, the next one Thor and of course 1.0 should be Odin.

A naming scheme would become dull. Inspiration according to the moment allows more freedom.

Perky.
