thanks

I've had several 'freezes' and crashes with dolphin lately. Figured it was something we had to live with. So far no damage to files. I'm running on Reiser partitions.

The same here. (Crashes when deleting mostly)
Also KDE4.2 Beta 2 is out.

Today plasma crashes at startup... somebody else?

plasma crashes for me too, even after cleaning .kde

For people who have crashes, do you have
Option "BackingStore" "True"
in your /etc/xorg.conf ?
If yes, it is unstable with the new xorg server 1.5. I have put a note in the Xorg wiki page. Especially, Konsole crashes when right-clicking or clicking on menus. Put it to "False" and crashes stop.

I have posted a bug report in nvnews.net forum, in nvidia linux drivers section. I have also xorg crashes and i thought it's an nvidia issue. I'm using legacy beta version 96.43.09.
So i was wrong. I tried nv driver and xorg crashed too. It's a pity it doesn't work, because backingstore increases performance a lot. By the way, if you enable backingstore, and run compiz as the window manager, there aren't any crashes!

backingstore is not enabled in my xorg, using vbox 2.1, plasma crashes immediately after login.

The recent chage to move kde-svn-extra inside the kde-svn as a repo section didn't work as I expected so I've made kde-svn-extra a top level "distro" instead and we'll see how that goes. Revised /etc/pacman.conf entries below...
# for i686 users
[kde-svn-extra]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde-svn-extra/i686
[kde-svn]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde-svn/i686
# for x86_64 users
[kde-svn-extra]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde-svn-extra/x86_64
[kde-svn]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde-svn/x86_64
As for instability, the upstream svn repo has just had quite a few Cmake related changes to reduce library linkage dependencies. This will slightly reduce application startup times and help simplify the Cmake build system a little. I can well imagine this will cause some problems for a few more days until the dust settles.

Does anyone know if this: http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2008/10 … signer-45/ is in Qt 4.5 trunk? qt-snapshot still has the old Qt Designer
Second - does kde-svn packages have plasmoid/something for the networkmanager (0.7?)

Cipher, you don't need to build those. Just add the repo on top of /etc/pacman.conf and update. Right now, you'd get the beta packages released today, built by our Arch devs. The packages will replace your 4.1 installation. But, as things are with unstable packages, it is unstable, so backup you data. So far, my experience is very good.

really ??, i been using these packages under virtualbox.
right now im going to install kde from svn using that repo

Hmm... maybe I wasn't clear. The repo is called [kde-unstable] and you can find it on every Arch mirror. It has beta2 packages. SVN packages are provided by markc (see a couple of posts above for the urIs).
Good luck!

Does everybody using Beta2 experience this bug ?
Also, related to kde-svn, is anyone having any issues downloading the kde-svn-extra db package ?

Do you see the new new repo layout ?
[kde-svn-extra]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde-svn-extra/i686
No problem with that right now

And by the way, QT Creator is open source now : http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2008/12 … -released/

Thanx maattd. I didn't read with enough attention markc's post, I thought it was the one from a couple of days ago.

@maattd: yes, good news, but my first attempt to build it failed and I'm not sure yet where best to report qt-creator related bugs. Now that kde-svn is self contained I'll start providing qt-snapshot and qt-creator more often and eventually daily. And thanks for mentioning the new layout is working for you as I haven't had a chance to try it yet.
Just to repeat myself and pimp the svn source repo, I don't actually use kde-svn packages much other than mostly kmail and konsole so any help with maintaining the source packages would be appreciated. It should be possible to pretty well ignore my other [dev], [gui] repo sections now and only checkout kde-svn (and kde-svn-extra as it turns out, would have been simpler if it was inside and naturally a sub-section of kde-svn) if that is all you care about and are interested in tweaking, testing and/or updating these kde-svn source packages.
I want to now focus on building the non-kde-svn packages on a [testing] machine where the Qt gui/max apps are all built on top of qt-snapshot. This will mean that mixing kde-svn and non-kde-svn packages will probably not work very well at times (hence the need to completely separate them) but I will continue to provide the current [core] and qt-copy based kde-svn packages. In other words, these kde-svn packages will be as good as the amount of attention they get and they are about to get a somewhat less attention from me.
Offline
@markc : my computer is too old in order to compile such packages imho But if i update my config for christmas or another event, it will be my pleasure to help you with this repo
For qt-creator, they are actually doing some strange merge on the source code, so i'm not really surprise you can't get it compiled. We have to wait for a couple of days until the trolltech svn "come down".
Have a nice day

Nope, gladly everything is fine for me with beta 2.

Doh, I am an idiot... I was trying to compile qt-creator on the same machine that builds kde-svn on top of qt-copy... and, wondering why it wouldn't build! So hopefully in the next 24 hours I'll set up qt-snapshot and qt-creator and all non-kde-svn eth-os related packages to build on a [testing] based system. I've also got some clues about building ALSA+Jack from upstream git repos and, from what I've seen so far, that means anything that relies on sound (just about everything, even Qt via Phonon) will need to be rebuilt on the same system, which means q-snapshot/qt-creator/+friends can't be intermixed with standard kde-svn/qt-copy/[core] based systems. Thiago Macieira clearly states... I've been running KDE 4.2 beta using Qt 4.5 beta for the past weeks, without major issues, and, like I said above, the Qt Creator beta is also using Qt 4.5 beta. at http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2008/12 … s-present/. Perhaps one day when I get this eth-os system up and running enough to be usable then it'll be worth building kde-svn on top of it. Anyway, unless somone has some info I am not aware of (please say so if you do), it won't be possible to run qt-creator with these kde-svn packages... not without installing qt-snapshot along side qt-copy and I don't have the time to work that out as I'll be flat out building on a separate ALSA+Jack+qt-snaphost+[testing] system.

HI markc
"@markc: extragear-multimedia is from 16 November. Can you rebuild it?
btw amarok 2 final is released wink"Vote from me too, can you please build extragear-multimedia again... on my machine i get stuck with amarok... didn't get why until now...
Some Infos: i get this output here:

@habarnam
powerdevil is working fine here for me... within suspend and hibernate through pm-utils... There seems to be a configuration Problem on your machine!
like mark said... reinstallig kde-svn fixes very often such weired problems... just by putting some files in the right direction..By the way:
What do you guys think to have an irc channel for the people using daily subversion packages... maybe its more efficient than forum...
same here and weather applets can not work . I think this is gcc bug
