Does someone knows how to place such "photographs" onto the desktop. Are they just part of the wallpaper, or is it some program?

It's part of the wallpaper sorry.

Hey, did you use gnome-do from aur or compiled it yourself? Also, did you try the GNOME Session plugin to shutdown and restart your computer? Because I can't get it to work except from Logout.

Awesome WM (loving it), Epiphany, Gedit, Terminal, some custom ruby script for widget info on panels.

nice fonts and setup, do you mind sharing your configs?

gnome-do-bzr in aur. I tried suspend and it works. It does not activate the gnome screensaver. So, it's a security issue.

Well, I use amazing. (pun intented). http://github.com/dag/amazing

Here's a simple bash command that you could also use to pipe to the volume progressbar:

amixer sget Master | grep 'Mono: Playback' | sed 's/.*[[:digit:]] \[//g;s/%\].*//g'
