Re: Arch Linux Schwag

I want the stickers badly, too...

I made a few on my own, smoe time ago, and I was looking to put them on a vinyl, but i have to buy at least 1mx1m of it, and I'm never going to use that much stickers.... tongue

http://bugflux.org/bugmedia/archlinux/

What do you think of those? By the way, regarding copyright, do I must keep the "tm" sign next to the 'A'??
I'm portuguese, I don't know what "hack a nice future" sounds to you, but I find the like geek inspirational.... tongue

"Ready for Arch" is arguable, but "Linux Capable" is just everything.

I also noticed.... 4mm thick vinyl........  4mm.... That's not quite suitable for laptops...

For the record, I think you can change the image on a product and add your own image if you prefer. But now that you mention it, I think we do need better sticker slogans. I like the KISS ones, maybe it could say "Powered by Arch" along the top and "Keep It Simple" along the bottom -- Thayer, what do you think?

By the way, regarding copyright, do I must keep the "tm" sign next to the 'A'??

That is a good quostion. I used the Crystal Icon for one of the images and it doesn't have the tm on it. Thayer: What's the policy on this?

That's a good point, but they explicitly mention laptops in the description. I e-mailed them for clarification, I'll let you know what they say.

Great and nice looking products!

Too bad, that this service is not "available" to German customers, because ordering from the US, the shipping costs are just too high. sad

I have similar issues shipping to Canada... I'm considering ordering in bulk and reselling up here, maybe a similar thing could be done in Europe if there was enough interest. Overall though, I'm guessing interest will be too low for this to be economically beneficial.

They say its a typo and the stickers are about 1mm thick. For the record, I will here publicly state that Zazzle's customer support seems to be very good. Not something you can say about web companies very often. ;-)

Do you know if that affects the whole Europe? I currently live in the UK, I wonder if they would be able to ship stuff over here.

Re: Arch Linux Schwag

Priority Shipping $3.99. This is for Portugal... Express shiping costs $26.99, but I have time, and $4 is more than acceptable, it's actually very reasonable!!

I'll be waiting for new stickers from Thayer, then.... Dusty, great iniciative!

Re: Arch Linux Schwag

how about a t-shirt with Arch logo and "# makeworld" on it? wink

(because I saw a similar t-shirt with "# emerge life" and liked that hidden deep philosophical sense wink)

How about a t-shirt with the quote:

"I hacked the Phrak, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

I think this is a must have tongue

Re: Arch Linux Schwag

I wasn't sure what to do with all these great suggestions, at first I was thinking I'd have to pick and choose between them or clutter the gallery with hundreds of suggested products... but now I've created a new "Contributed Ideas" product line, in which I intend to put all suggestions.  It currently contains nDray's stickers and the two t-shirt ideas suggested by Romashka and finferflu.

Remember that you can customize all products before you buy them, so if you don't like the default look , style, or layout you can change it! :-)

I would have to check with our lawyers on this one *ahem*, but I think the official statement would be, "The trademark should be included with any use of the logo."  It may not be enforced in a particular country at the moment, but that could change at any time.

In an ideal world, the clothing tag would include a trademark statement, but since we're dealing with a third-party producer this isn't practical for the time being.

Re: Arch Linux Schwag

I think the "makeworld" is a beautiful concept, such as the "I hacked phrak", tongue but the designs could be improved on these ones, like the fonts... I already puted some stickers in the cart, and I'll be buying one or two shirts when I decide...

The products look really great, I like them a lot! But the shipping costs outside of the US are just too high.
BTW, what does schwag exactly mean? I found swag in the dictionary, and it means prey or even theft big_smile but schwag?

It's a reference to swag, as in loot. Schwag is just the crazy Arch linux way of saying swag tongue

Re: Arch Linux Schwag

I've updated the font on the two t-shirts. I'm still a little dissatisfied with the 'hacked the phrak' one. I want it to have an amateurish look in a professional way, but I think I missed the professional part. :-/

The makeworld font looks much better though, IMO.

Let me know what you think or if you can improve it.

Re: Arch Linux Schwag

Wait, wait... You're gonna love this one......
What do you think of writting "# makeworld" but, instead of using the '#', using a Pacman??!! Beautiful, isn't it????

Too bad I already tried to order some stuff, but I can't :'(... I don't have a credit card, I usually create temporary mastercards at mbnet.pt, a service provided by Portuguese banks, but zazzle isn't accepting them.................

For now I haven't got an idea for the font (one could look up the fonts the l33t hax0rz use when they hack web pages), but I would definitely remove the quotes from "the phrak", we don't need them, we all know who he is tongue
