It's pretty easy with Terminator: run the terminal maximized and split horizontally and vertically, then save this layout under preferences. Here you can assign each "split" a custom command (in my case, Mutt, newsbeuter, ncmpcpp and a standard terminal) and assign a profile (for colors, borderless, no scrollbar, etc.) which you can define in the corresponding tab under preferences.
Create an entry for this specific layout/profile for devilspie, so it executes according to dp's settings (skip pager/tasklist, always behind, etc.) and add both to your autostart.sh. (I start terminator with the --layout, --profile, -b and -m options, but some of that is redundant given devilspie).

Since I first set openbox up all I've done is reduce the amount of information that conky presents to the minimum I need and changed the wallpaper a few times.


Openbox theme: Shiki-Brave-Openbox with a few tweaks
GTK Theme: Shiki-Brave
Icons: Gnome-Brave
Wallpaper from Wallbase (caution, some content NSW!)
tint2: tint2rc
Conky configs: conkyrc right conkyrc left

I did the WM shuffle and played with WMFS for a bit, but wound up back with Openbox.

Conky grabs from a python gmail checker script that I could share upon request.

decided I really don't like tiling window managers, so I switched back to openbox. But I really liked Awesome's panel, so I decided to attempt to emulate it in openbox, and this is the result. I must say, I am very happy with it.
