Re: Best way to do 'volume management'

When I tried DesktopBSD it didn't automount anything but instead it had a nice tray icon which would show available devices so you could mount/unmount them with a click. I really liked that way of doing things. How could something like that be achieved on Arch ? Any ideas ?

Re: Best way to do 'volume management'

I'm fairly sure it's DesktopBSD hack, so i guess it wouldn't agree to KISS (aka vanilla packages) principle. On the other hand, there may be a source to that particular option, so you could compile it for yourself smile

I love you, lanrat.
You just showed me how to easily implement automount for eSATA drives, something I have been trying to do for a looong time.
Thanks!!!

I use icewm&pcmanFM,it works well, just start HAL&FAM,pcmanFM can automount drivers,no need to edit anything.

Re: Best way to do 'volume management'

Hey lanrat, if you're still watching this thread, any idea how to keep the volumes visible on the left pane of pcmanfm using your automount method? The automount works great .... just can't see the volumes that are automounted (I can see all the partitions on my hard drive) and can't right click to unmount or eject them.

Thanks, Scott

I made a bookmark to the /media - folder, where the volumes are automatically mounted using lanrat's solution.

Not exactly what you want, but easy to use nonetheless.
