Apparently they use the same microarchitecture as higher end core2 processors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Pentium_Dual-Core
See external links from there too.
I think he's talking about the intel pentium D procs. These are still based on the NetBurst architecture.

On the Graphics side I have always preferred Amd/Ati and run a 3870 hd. Just my 2 cents!!:D:D
Ati drivers in Linux have mostly been barely functional at best.
That may be changing but Nvidia is at the moment the safer bet.

I have used:
Intel 486 sx25
SiS (i think) 486 dx 33
Intel 486 dx 2-66
AMD 486 dx 4-100
Pentium I 75 Mhz
Cyrix 586 gp 100
AMD K6 233
AMD K6-2 450
AMD Duron 700
AMD Duron 1800
Sempron Mobile 3500+
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Intel Core2Duo E8200 @ 4 Ghz
Currently i'm using the mobile sempron notebook as my main machine, and it runs really fine.
Temperature is on ~43°C with "normal usage", which means browsing,im,music- it spends most of the time on 800mhz (thanks to the powernow_k8 module).
In Performance aspects, the only CPU that really disappointed me was the Cyrix 586. In the past AMD was always the choice for price/performance ratio, and sometimes (especially in the Athlon-xp-days) they also were a lot of faster- Nowadays AMD seems to lag behind intel regarding to performance, but regarding to the price they have many (or at least a few) competitive products. Especially due to the integrated memory controller, which cuts mainboard costs low.
If i would build a new system that's supposed to be performant i would chose intel.
For a low-budget system i would still chose AMD.
At least it's your personal choice, any current CPU will surely satisfy your needs.

Ok I am terribly biased due to a bad experience in the past: For years I have supported AMD and bought their processors, in the end mainly because they were manufactured in Germany.
But then AMD released the Turion 64, I got one, and just two months later they decided "hey let's kill Socket 754 and stop distributing processors for this" (mind you, this socket was still fresh) and I thought, very frustrated "hey let's show AMD they can f*** off" as I was frantically looking for a replacement processor for that socket.
I had countless inquiries to do, bought the processor at ebay (and got the wrong one delivered, mailed it back, and the "right" processor was no longer available); I got my local retailer do inquiries for me, I had a chatter with enoch.amd.com and their mail support people who told me that they are not made anymore and they didnt give me any retailers who still sold them. I would call that pretty f****ed up and pretty amateurish on top of that. You cannot just make a complete product line disappear without pissing off customers.
Maybe I will start buying AMD again if Hector Ruiz leaves them.
So now it is intel, and it will stay that way.
Edit: somewhat more elaborate description of the problem.

A lot of people had a problem like yours for here, and it was really very frustrating to then.
I don't know what AMD thinks of the future...

I can't decide between both.
Intel give us great Open Source drivers while AMD gives us especifications...

The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.
