Except for the fact that as far as we know the source engine uses DX9 which has no linux support (except under wine) so they are either porting DX9 (very unlikely) or making an OpenGL frontend which I have no idea if this is hard or not.

They don't have the full specs to DX9, that's an MS trade-secret. They'd need to reverse-engineer it, like what I believe Wine does. So that's definitely not happening.
