@ichbinesderelch: How did you manage to run kdemod 4.2 on your AA1? Do you have another DE before installing kdemod 4.2?:) If so, did you remove it or just installed kdemod 4.2 alongside?
i had older kde 4.1 installed before, but as i said kde 4.2 not running very well on my AA1, important thing is that you remove your .kde4 folder when you upgrade from kde4.1 to kde4.2, nothing special done to get it run, but plasma etc not working very well! and if you have no DE installed before just install it from command line, no need for installing a DE for that!
edit: tried to get kdemod4.2 running again, but didn't even boot anymore with no .kde4 folder, going back to 4.1
edit: kde4.1 not starting as well, maybe doomed

I guess we all had the same rough experience on KDE...KDEmod 4.1 x86_64 works well on my desktop but I don't use it that often coz I go to school..:) Using xfce4 on my AA1 was far stable...

kdemod4.1 works flawelessly, kdemod4.1 is not form the testing but form normal kde4 repos, and this works without any problems on the aa1 with ssd card! only having those problems with 4.2

I guess I'll stick with XFCE4 for now...Don't wanna mess with my system again...:P
edit: Anyone here having problems detecting wireless networks? I mean sometimes you can't detect them while other users (windows users) can?:/

Sorry, kinda went too far with DE adventure..:D
@AndyRTR: Any update on your kernel? gothicknight no longer maintains the kernel26-one on the AUR..:(

I thought discussing what DE you think suits your AAO was on topic. Oh well.
One last thing though, I installed the xf86-video-intel-newest from aur with the newer drm. Somehow it seems to have fixed my systray in kdemod-4.2.
I'm also interested in hearing about the kernel. I mean, gothicks is working great, but it's no longer developed. I'm interested in your kernel AndyRTR, but I have 1.5 GB of RAM. Didn't you say your kernel limited it to 1GB?

Yah...thats ok...:)
@Zom: I tried AndyRTR's kernel last time, since I have 1gb of ram it only shows 800+ mb...:)
I'll just have to wait for a stable kdemod 4.2..;) Last night, I managed to run it once on my AA1. Unfortunately after the crash, I can no longer see my desktop...:(

Hmm I installed 915 resolution Uvesafb, and the framebuffer is great. But it seems to have stopped suspend from working. It can go into suspend.. but when I resume, all I see is a blank screen with a blinking cursor. ANyone else experiencing this?

Yep, using the stock kernel last night I experienced that as well...:(
Someone here knows where to put this ?
.xbindkeysrc.scm
I want my function keys to work as well...:D
Someone using the stock kernel on their AA1?

You have to put it into your home directory: ~/.xbindkeys.scm
Someone using the stock kernel on their AA1?
Yes. And it works great. I guess suspend may not work because of the CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME option not set, but I don't need that. That custom kernel thing is overrated IMHO. You may get a few seconds lower boot time, but that's all. With the stock kernel you get a good build a few days after release and have no need to fiddle with the config on every release.
BTW, this thread has gotten very long and questions like the above do not contribute to the readability of the thread. If you want to know something or want to solve a problem, ask. But I don't see the point in asking

without any particular background. Also it is not AA1-related where to put the dot-file for xbindkeys. You mess around with custom kernels and don't know where to put a dot-file?

Well I have put the .xbindkeys.scm on my home directory, the function keys are not working still both on stock and custom...:(

I think it's still related thomasd...Where will I ask it then? I thought this thread was created to benefit the arch users using the AA1? I'm no expert to know everything...And about that dot-file it's for the function keys of the AA1 hence I'll ask it here...I just need some clarifications with regards to .xbindkeys.scm and to tell you I've already put it on my home folder before posting it here...:/ I just hope you'll consider that everyone here is learning including me and such simple mistakes are unavoidable sometimes or being overlooked...;)
With regards to the stock kernel, unmounting an MMC-card at the right slot on my XFCE4 desktop doesn't removes it's icon. When I insert it again, it will create another icon of the device...This will repeat over and over again..Does this happen to other DE's?

I was just a little upset after reading two pages on the different flavours of KDE. Never mind.
Regarding your xbindkeys problem, it may be KDE or XFCE related. I think at least KDE uses its own settings to bind special keys. Maybe this overrides the xbindkeys program. There is a subforum dedicated to desktop environments. Maybe there are people who have experience with that.

I use only mount and umount at the moment, but used XFCE some time ago. My USB stick had a label with a whitespace in the middle which apparently confused the automounter in XFCE, because I got entries with and without the whitespace in the file manager each time. After unmounting, one of the entries stayed in place.
I do not if this is related to your problem, but you should check if there are some strange characters in the label of your MMC card.

@koala_linux, all
the ath5k drivers aren't stable. that could be the reason for the loss of wireless accessibility. it locks in state -11 and requires a full power cycle (not a reset!) to fix. sometimes you can get lucky with loading/unloading modules, but unlikely

I'm right now using ath5k as what zom said...I can detect wireless networks fine, but sometimes it can't.:( I myself doesn't know if it's on or off...So what I do is to slide the wifi-switch back and forth..:) Does your wifi led working?
GNU nano 2.0.9 File: /etc/sysctl.conf
#
# Kernel sysctl configuration
#
# Disable packet forwarding
net.ipv4.ip_forward=0
# Disable the magic-sysrq key
kernel.sysrq = 0
# Enable TCP SYN Cookie Protection
net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies = 1
#wifi-led
sysctl -w dev.wifi0.ledpin=3
sysctl -w dev.wifi0.softled=1
Is this correct? My wifi led is not working or showing any blink...

look some pages back. a patch to the kernel is required to get the led active again.

From pacman -Q
libdrm 2.3.1-2
xf86-video-intel 2.4.3-1
v86d 0.1.9-2.1
915resolution-static 0.5.3-3

Suspend is also broken for me with Uvesafb. I am using the stock kernel 2.6.28.2, same package versions as jey posted above and no special hooks for pm-suspend. Only the ath5k thing as mentioned in the wiki.
I am wondering whether any of the quirks mentioned in the manpage of pm-suspend may work, but there are too many to try them all.

fix for kde4.2 for the ssd.. don't use tempfs! or increase the amount of dedicated space.

I use hibernate-script on top of tuxonice. I use my own kernel and I already put it in the AUR (kernel26-oneice).
Never had any issue of suspend/resume from disk or memory.
uvesafb will give me a messy screen after resume (with the latest intel GEM-enabled video driver), but the xf86-video-intel and libdrm from extra works fine with uvesafb.
Try my kernel if you are interested.

I'm having some problems using the stock kernel, it fails to detect my SDHC card (/home) every other time...I need to reboot again and it will detect it properly...Any workarounds?

You might need to increase it even more if amarok fails launching.

Not really as far as I know. I got pciehp modprobed and just reinsert the card every time that happens. Though, that won't work for home since it's supposed to be mounted at boot... I suggest using a regular SD card for /home in the right slot and mount the SDHC by your DE.
