Re: Acer Aspire One

Hmm, do you have 'make' installed? Also, there's a makedepend package in the AUR, which might help you out. Not sure though, I've never had that error myself.

I'm using the custom kernel uname -r: "2.6.28-one".
Does someone know what's going on or know a solution to this problem?
Any help will be apppreciated.

add sdhci.debug_quirks=1 to your kernel boot line

i finally got it to work just by running ./configure --prefix=/usr and then make and make install.
that put everything in the right place.

i can report mesa 7.3 is working without problems, uxa and exa (the latters seems faster to me, specially with docky/gnome-do). It's actually made a lot of games playable again after the whole switch to GEM.

thanks for bringing it up, wasn't aware of mesa 7.3!

Any suggestions, ideas and bug reports are welcome!

This is awesome, thank you very much.

Gonna try compiling mesa-git libgl-git and intel-dri-git from AUR now to try out the latest mesa.

mesa-git and intel-dri-git didn't seem to work, so as I said above, I just downloaded and compiled mesa from their site, and left intel-dri at the package from the extra repo. It didn't seem to make a difference.

Re: Acer Aspire One

Just tried using the stock kernel on my AA1 and it worked fine but I have to mount my SDHC card (/home) before it will work because it fails to mount it on bootup even though I already included it on my fstab...Any ways to automate it? It would be a great help...:P

For those trying the latest intel driver, please provide the packages to be installed...;)
I might try it as well...

mesa-git
intel-dri-git
libgl-git

Are these enough?:)

That'll probably be fine *IF* those packages actually work, but they seemed to be borked for me. They wouldn't compile.

They won't work if you're using ath5k, not sure about ath_hal/pci though.

Re: Acer Aspire One

They work with ath_hal/ath_pci, and ath5k if you patch the kernel.

Speaking of the kernel, anybody working on either updating gothics kernel or starting on their own? kernel26-one-dev in aur doesn't work very good for me, and kernel26-one-ice is for only 1GB RAM systems, if I remember correctly...

Re: Acer Aspire One

Hello fellow Archers!

I have a little suggestion. Meybe we should consider adding an option for xorg hotplugging in Aspire one wiki.
This is how I've done it:

Firstly you need to install xf86-input-evdev.
Then you should change your xorg.conf to something like this:

 Section "ServerLayout"
     Identifier     "Default Layout"
     Screen      0  "Screen0" 0 0
 EndSection

 Section "Monitor"
     Identifier  "Monitor0"
     Modeline    "1024x600"  50.40  1024 1048 1184 1344  600 600 619 625
      DisplaySize 195 113 # Sets the correct DPI (96 x 96)
 EndSection

 Section "Device"
     Identifier  "Videocard0"
     Driver      "intel"
      Option        "Clone" "true"
     Option    "MonitorLayout"    "LVDS,VGA"
     BusID    "PCI:0:2:0"
      Option    "AccelMethod" "exa"
    Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
     Option "NoDDC"
 EndSection

 Section "Screen"
     Identifier "Screen0"
     Device     "Videocard0"
     Monitor        "Monitor0"
     DefaultDepth     24
     SubSection "Display"
         Viewport   0 0
         Depth     24
         Modes    "1024x600" "800x600" "640x480"
         Virtual    1024 600
     EndSubSection
 EndSection

 Section "DRI"
     Group        "video"
     Mode        0666
 EndSection

And add 11-x11-synaptics.fdi and 10-keymap.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/

11-x11-synaptics.fdi:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
        <device>
          <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">

              <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string">synaptics</merge>

              <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton2" type="string">2</merge>
              <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton3" type="string">3</merge>
            </match>
            <match key="info.product" contains="AlpsPS/2 ALPS">
            </match>
            <match key="info.product" contains="appletouch">

            <match key="info.product" contains="bcm5974">
            </match>
          </match>
        </device>
</deviceinfo>

With this settings touchpad works with tapping and horizontal and vertical scrollig.

10-keymap.fdi:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!-- -*- SGML -*- -->
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
  <device>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keymap">
      <append key="info.callouts.add" type="strlist">hal-setup-keymap</append>
    </match>

    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keys">
      <merge key="input.xkb.rules" type="string">xorg</merge>

      <!-- If we're using Linux, we use evdev by default (falling back to
           keyboard otherwise). -->
      <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">keyboard</merge>
      <match key="/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer:system.kernel.name"
             string="Linux">
        <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">evdev</merge>
      </match>

      <merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">si</merge>
    </match>
  </device>
</deviceinfo>

You should change "si" in "<merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">si</merge>" to your layout. You can find all options in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/

Everything else works like expected. Could you please try this configuration?

I'd probably go with stock for now, since it's fully up-to-date (not sure about Gothic's) and everything works fine. Of course, the best is compiling it for yourself, but stock should be just fine. I'm using it right now, with no problems.

Theres an option in gtk's kernel about buggy MMC controller or something.  That's critical for those of us running ext2 on an SDHC.

Also pick more ram than 1G.  The 1G option doesn't allow a full 1G to be seen.

Definitely add the LED patches.

Please try to keep it small. Gtk's kernel boots amazingly fast and I'd like to keep that.

Re: Acer Aspire One

I'd like support for USB 3G modems, most filesystems and support for framebuffer, either VESA, intelfb or both. Possibly patched with madwifi too for the old ath_pci/ath_hal modules, but it's no biggie since ath5k seems to work great.

The stock kernel is also booting very fast since 2.6.28. udev takes 3.6 seconds for me compared to ~2 seconds for kernel26-one. Also the initial kernel loading takes longer with kernel26-one, since everything is compiled in-kernel. That may compensate with the need for an initramfs for the stock kernel. But after all, I don't see the need for a custom kernel if you gain only one or two seconds.
The only relevant thing missing in the stock kernel is CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME, if you use an SD-card and want to use suspend.

Re: Acer Aspire One

As for me, the stock kernel has problems mounting an SDHC  (left slot) at bootup especially when you make it as your /home....:) That's what keeps me away from using it entirely...:(

Re: Acer Aspire One

Just done a fresh install and I cant get Xorg running properly. My xorg.conf is the one from the wiki.

It manages to run under root, but just crashes back to console when a user tries running startx. Both give this error ( as well as some minor XKEYBOARD ones):

grep "(EE)" /var/log/Xorg.0.log gives:
