Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

kde4-decibel is not in [extra], but decibel is, and kde4-network now depends on decibel instead.

I fixed repositories, just run pacman -Sy kde4-all and it should work fine.

Language packs are back, additional packages (amarok, koffice and kdevelop) are in the repository as well (except kde4-koffice for i686-debug, it shoul be there soon).

Sorry for the problems.

No problem! Thanks for the packages.

The release candidate is very impressive.

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

pacman -Sy kde4-all is still trying to install kde4-decibel for me.
It looks like it's still in the kde4-all group:
:: group kde4-all (including ignored packages):
    kde4-amarok  kde4-common  kde4-decibel  kde4-digikam  kde4-kdeaccessibility  kde4-kdeadmin

@andrewy: Have you seen it updating kde4 repository? Which repository do you use? Can you try: pacman -Rd kde4-decibel ; pacman -Sy kde4-all ?

Yes, I've seen it update the kde4 repo. I'm using the i686 release repo. It still tries to pull in kde4-decibel after running that command. I had already removed kde4-decibel, so it didn't make a difference.

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

Umm, I installed kde4, but the applications do not show up in the gnome or xfce menu. Is it because kde4 was installed in /opt? How do I make xfce and gnome see the kde4 applications? Also, when the final release comes out, should I reinstall kde4( since it has to be installed in /usr )?

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

@sidc: KDE4 applications are invisible to the rest of the system. Running any KDE4 apps is just like running KDE4 - so it could break your KDE 3.5 configuration.
If you really want to be able to see KDE4 apps from Gnome or Xfce, you should add ". /etc/kde4-profile.sh" to your .bashrc file of the user running Gnome/Xfce (and .bash_profile if your .bash_profile doesn't call .bashrc file). I don't use Gnome or Xfce so I have no idea if it should make those apps visible in menus though - so if you try that, please share this piece of information wink

As for the final release - yes, when kde4 comes to official Arch's repositories, it will be probably in /usr. Even if it is somewhere in /opt, you will have to reinstall the whole thing using official packages and remove those from my repository.

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

Unfortunately, I already did that and it has no effect sad . I guess I'll just wait for the final release to come out and then the other DEs will be able to recognize it. Btw, I tested the KDE 4 rc1 and it runs very slow compared to KDE 3. I guess its because of my Nvidia card. All 8xxx series cards have this issue because of the crappy driver. Just a warning to all Nvidia 8xxx series users.

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

Just installed kde4-all from your repo, first of all it looks amazing, great job packaging, however when I try to run an application like digikam gwenview or showfoto I get the error message
"gwenview: error while loading shared libraries: libexiv2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
I found someone else who had a similar problem before with the betas and they created a symlink to the file I tried this but still get the error.
just wondering if anyone knows how to fix this?

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

@calcium20: This is because exiv package in [extra] has been updated. You probably recently upgraded your system and now you have exiv2-0.17.1-1. I have started rebuild of affected packages: kde4-digikam kde4-kdegraphics and kde4-koffice. New versions (with higher pkg release number) should be there as soon as they build. Before that, you could downgrade exiv2 to 0.16 version (although it would break other packages from [extra], which were updated for the new exiv2 library (like gwenview or digikam).

If you want to check the progress, have a look here: http://sjakub.net/arch/kde-4.1.log

Server down?
How much place do you use and need btw, and what bandwith per month does kde4 need from you.
(In case you need a mirrorsite, i might be able to help)

2007.08 - The last proper ARCH install cd.

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

@AllFather: It works fine here. The space: kde4+kde4-svn repositories take 8GB at the moment. I have no idea about the bandwidth though wink The problem with the mirroring is that I can not upload packages at decent speed from the build machine. It goes fast to the csclub machine, which can send it further with higher speed. Sending it directly fro mthe build machine would be very slow. So any mirroring would have to download it from csclub anyway. But I don't think that server can not handle it without a mirror. Unless someone gets angry if I use all the quote (not much left hmm ) wink

All: updated kde4-kdegraphicks and kde4-digikam packages are in repositories already. kde4-koffice is building, and will probably take few hours to finish.

UPDATE: kde4-koffice is there as well smile

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

The default splash theme seems to have stopped working for me in .99 release. I have a 1440x900 resolution, maybe that's the point, because i don't see that resolution in /opt/kde4/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/Default.
I get this error when i try to load it manually:

$ksplashx Default --test
Bad color: BACKGROUND_IMAGE 0 0 background.png

I would be grateful if you could post the previous kdeworkspace release somewhere, splash from that one worked fine for me (unless it's the problem with the binary, which i doubt). A fix is even more welcome;)

EDIT:
After editing the file shown in the post below it works perfectly, thanks!

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

@isak: Those PKGBUILDs can't really be used directly, they should rather be used together with some scripts I wrote.
Anyway, the whole pack (4.1 + svn): PKGBUILDs and every single script I use (even script used for re-creating this pack wink ) is here:

Do I _HAVE_ to run it as a different user? Or can I just run it as my normal user? Why do you say run it as a different user?

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

@solarwind: So you wouldn't complain if it accidentally deletes all your mail, documents and eats pizza from your fridge wink

You don't _have_ to run it as a separate user, but it might screw up your configuration, especially if you use KDE 3.5.

However, it doesn't use the same directory as KDE 3.5 ( ~/.kde4 instead of ~/.kde) thus it should probably be safe to run as the same user.
Again: "should" - I can not make any guarantees that it won't delete or break something in existing configuration. So if you don't mind recreating
some settings of existing desktop manager if something goes wrong, and you have all your important data backed up - feel free to try it smile

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

I installed kde4-all package from debug today on a clean archlinux install, problem is, I have no sound trough kde apps!, If i use mplayer and alsamixer in command line it works so it should work.
it also doesn't seem as though my sound card gets recognised (it's an onboard realtek sound card) since my kmix has no handles at all! Am i looking over something basic?
