Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

So is kde 4.1 pretty screwed on nvida 8xxx cards? I was really looking forward to upgrading, but is it worth it on an 8800gtx?

Unfortunately, I already did that and it has no effect sad . I guess I'll just wait for the final release to come out and then the other DEs will be able to recognize it. Btw, I tested the KDE 4 rc1 and it runs very slow compared to KDE 3. I guess its because of my Nvidia card. All 8xxx series cards have this issue because of the crappy driver. Just a warning to all Nvidia 8xxx series users.

I guess you've seen this suggestion:

nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1

I can't remember where I saw this, maybe here.

FWIW, and tanis may already know this, but some support software versions for 4.1 should be...

soprano 2.1
akonadi 1.0
automoc 0.9.84
phonon 4.2.0

and the last 2 I've made PKGBUILDs for here (not needed for trunk)...

http://code.google.com/p/eth-os/source/ … 4/PKGBUILD
http://code.google.com/p/eth-os/source/ … n/PKGBUILD

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

@ tanis: So, my friend, with KDE4.1 entering testing, do you think you'll keep maintaining your packages for a while, or not? I'm happy enough with yours that I'm not going to use the testing packages anytime soon. For one thing, I was very concerned about not corrupting my KDE3.5 installation, and your approach has that taken care of.

Still, I'm wondering what you're thinking.

Thanks again, by the way. I'm having a blast playing (and even working) with KDE4.1, and it's thanks to you.

You'll need to install kdeedu.  It contains the 'Marble' atlas app.

I'm getting a connection timed out error when trying to use your repo, Tanis.

Re: KDE 4.1 RC package repositories (i686/x86_64, release/debug)

In my opinion..

I gave a new chance to kde4 and at the beginning fonts were ugly and big, menus outdated and more weird stuff..but now it's been 1 day using it and I just love 4.1!! It's stable, beautiful and much much faster than kde3.

Well done, yes! wink

The only thing, is with Firefox because menu fonts appears a bit big than usual. I tried to install different tools such as gtk2_prefs, qtcurve-kde4 and so on... Any idea?
