I used to have the same problem. Disabling cpufreq solved it completely for me.

So sad, I don't use cpufreq - the module is not loaded. Your solution doesn't help me sad

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

I ran my arch for over 24h, but when I plugged in my USB drive the system crashed shortly after..
Could that be a reason?

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

Just to let people know. I installed the newest nvidia driver: nvidia-173.14.12-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz and still experienced a hard freeze. I might just switch to the nv driver permanently and say goodbye to my compositing. sad

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

My freezing seems to have stopped since I put noapic in the kernel startup parameters.

I haven't tried this yet, so I'll give it a shot and see. I guess if I never post in this thread again, it'll be a good thing. tongue

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

I'm sure that my USB Drive is the theif.
I've been running my computer for like 5 days without my drive and without a single freeze. And tonight when I plugged it in. I got a kernel panic shortly after.

This is the solution. I haven't had a freeze every since I did this and it's been weeks (months?).

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

im having the same problem on a laptop with intel video card.

there is no apparent pattern. its weird.

im disabled the wireless card to see if there is any thing new, but i really think it has something to do with the video card.

hm.
thats it. just so you know there is one more with the problem. =]

But did you try adding the noapic to your grub menu?

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

For me the problem seems to be gone without changing anything... maybe it was the NVIDIA driver - I don't know...

Re: [Solved]Frequent full freezes! Help!

hi.

so here is what i do today:

i start acer_fancontrol on the virtual console 1 as root
start X on the virtual console 2.

to quit X (and then halt my acer laptop) i DO NOT DO the alt - backspace exit sequence (if I do, everything crashes and I have to shutdown my computer the bad way), I go to virtual console 1 (or 2, for that matter) and then do halt.

Some how, this has stopped the freezing. I think probably it had something to do with the video card (since I have intel, its not something nvidia-specific) and how the kernel deals with it. some atualization, not sure which, solved it. but still, X freezes if I dont do the exit I told you.

I am so sorry if this was a confusing post. Im kind of out of time.
