Well, flash is somewhat of a problem, but it can be easily resolved with the wiki. Apart from that, javascript and wine(got it to work though) may be a problem. Also, compiling a few programs can cause some problems, but nothing which cant be resolved with a little common sense
It works but npviewer is horrendously unstable.
There are also plenty of flash sites that refuse to work at all.
Although I have had no trouble getting Wine working I much prefer using VirtualBox for Windows stuff.
I keep a master VM with very litttle installed that seems to have no faults.
If Windows stuffs up I just delete the VM and make a fresh copy.

Ok, I have the computer now and am on it now. I have space set up for linux, but I dont want to install it until I resolve the issue with the wireless card. It is a Broadcom BCM4322. From what I have been reading, this is not good. Does anyone know how I could make this work on Linux? Thanks for all the help. Oh yeah and this is a really really nice computer!

use ndiswrapper and the files from this exe:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Te … 9-1&mode=3
i know it says it for HP but it's the same card so you should be able to get it to work
you can even run the executable with wine and have it extract the files for you and then use ndiswrapper on them

Ok cool. So will that be glitchy compared to if it was natively supported? I want it to be rock hard reliable.

Hey OneEyedPimp!
Please tell me how things went with setting up arch on that particular notebook. Is everything working 100% after installing those drivers?
ATI is not on the top of my wishlist, but, how good do you think it works in arch on the studio notebook?
Does hibernate + suspend work every time?
Does the built in mic work?
How about Fn keys + multimedia buttons (if not, are they recognized by the kernel at least)?
What resolution did you go for, and how are the viewing angles and light distributiuon?
And also, are you happy with you purchase?

Hello pelle.k,
Yes everything on this notebook works 100%. There are a couple of hardware issues that I had to work around. At first the sound didnt work, but updating to the newest kernel as well as ALSA, and it works peachy keys, you just have to play around with the mixer settings, you have to mute the furthest left Analog L to get the sound from the speakers. The headphones do not work as of yet and I havent tested the microphone plugin as I do not have a mic. I have had the webcam working, but I have not tested its sound as I dont really use it. If you know a way in which I can test the built in mic, I would be more than happy to test it for you.
Using the ati driver from the guide in the arch wiki got the screen working just fine. The resolution is the standard resolution for this laptop, 1280 x 800. I havent tried upping that as it works just fine for me at that resolution. I think that the ATI works awesome on this notebook, both on ARCH and on Vista. Very crisp and snappy.
I dont know if it is the same, but s2disk and s2ram work each and every time. s2ram requires the command 's2ram -f' to get it to go. s2ram is acting a bit funky now that I am using SLiM and s2disk currently doesnt work for me as I have encryped my swap. I have not found a way around this yet.
7 of the 8 hot keys work right out of the box. I use xbindkeys and they are all recognized except on that dell threw in there that is to launch like a media player. They keyboard lights up and num lock works on the keyboard so you can have a 10-digit numeric key thingy, I for get what they are called. Pretty cool if you ask me.
The finger-print scanner isnt really supported under linux. The drivers that I have tried have not yeilded any success.
If there are any other questions you have, feel free to ask!

Well, you will get a seperate driver cd along with your system, so you can reinstall all the drivers later or you can just dl them from the website. As far as functionality is concerned, it should be the same , though I really dont know, cuz after I reinstalled it, I've used it only twice(been 2 months
) .
You'll get a driver CD most likely, what you probably won't get however is a recovery CD. If you don't then you will get the option somewhere within the Dell tools to create a recovery DVD from the recovery information on the hard drive. I would SERIOUSLY recommend you get that made, because although you may not wish to use vista much yourself, if you come to pass the machine on to someone else later, they might do. Also if you majorly screw up at any point then it's a useful tool to have.
