I am a minimalist and I've been a big fan of compiz since the get go. As a LAMP developer by day and your regular linux enthusiast at night, I find Compiz very usable and functional in terms of giving me a more streamlined, robust computer experience. Using Compiz doesnt automatically mean you have to enable every single plug-in that comes with it. Personally, the only eye candy, if you can even call them that, I have are fading windows, minimization animations; basically transition animations (ie. wall, expo). I guess my brain likes that "transitional flow" between windows, workspaces and what-not. It just feels smooth and it helps me greatly with workflow.
Personally, I abuse the tiling, group, ring switch and expo plugins. I can safely say that these plugins contribute about 20% in terms of my work efficiency.
But like you guys say, its all about choices

@bijoux: That's the way I feel. I don't like lots of flashy candy, but transparency and transition animatiosn (but I do have wobbly windows!) is what I like as well!
P.S. Pardon my dumbness, but is that task bar conky? Or have you done some wizardry with the Gnome one? Any help there?

How did you get that Firefox look/colors (apart from Vimperator)? Is it a FF theme or GTK Colors/Engine?
thanks in advance
The gtk theme is a slightly modified Dusk.
I used the addon Stylish to tweak some parts of Firefox (no favicons in tabs, some spacing and color changes to vimperator).

Only because it is minimalistic it is not automatically better.
True but what you may assume is "not automatically better" maybe best for others.

Of course it won't be better for everyone as we all have different tastes. My point was only that to some people saving hardware isn't the only reason why one would go with a smaller/lighter window manager.
I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

Does anyone using AwesomeWM use that info.pl anymore? The one gigamo has on github is producing some incorrect output. I will get around to fixing it otherwise. thanks : )

Is that ROXTerm using pseudo-transparency or true transparency?
If it's true, do you mind telling me what graphics card and driver you're using?
(I can't get xcompmgr to make urxvt transparent and have shadows with nvidia)

Enjoy. They're modified versions of Xfce-dusk and Murrina-CarbonX, and the Clearlooks theme for bmpanel. I'm not quite done with them, and Xfce-dusk has a really weird issue with showing a red selection box that I haven't fixed in the gtkrc yet.

Alright. Here's my alternate theme Once I get the actual OB themes up on my site, there will be a whole synopsis about why I chose these colors, etc, but for now just know that I have two main themes -- one blue and white, the other black and green. I even have a nifty little bash function to swap them back and forth for me! Yay .bashrc!
Anyway, here's the second:

Indeed that is Openbox. I'm using Thunar with the toolbar path style, and Icon view with very small icons in preferences.
