Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Okay, I'm back in my right mind.  Everytime a new release of KDE 4 comes out, I try it against my better judgement, and it makes me insane. Its insanity to think I could fork KDE.   If you guys think you can do a fork, I'll support it, maybe write some documentation,  but do we really need a fork yet?  I think that for now, a better way to saye KDE3 might be to work toward building a KDE3  community.    The devs say that if people use KDE3, it'll be maintained.      I love KDE3, but I can't resist the siren song of each new maddening KDE4 release because KDE4 is where the action is.  Maybe we can get some action going for KDE3.  How about a website, some documentation? (the KDE help browser has docs that go back to 2002!)  How about some really cool software projects?  I'm going back to my KDE3/Fluxbox/knoppix based  live CD, Kickbox.

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Not at this moment. I can't even access the build machine myself, that's why this repo hasn't been updated for a while hmm
As soon as some network issues are solved, I will update and rebuild those packages.
I have finally resolved some issues with KDE3 and KDE4 coexisting (since the solution from kdemod didn't work very well),
so the next update should be interesting. I also plan to change name scheme for the packages to kde3-xyz (kde3-kdelibs, etc),
to avoid collisions with kdelibs3 from [extra].

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Hi!

I can access my build machine again (had to move it physically to other room wink ), and new set of KDE3 packages is being built.
If you want, here is the package with pkgbuilds: http://sjakub.net/arch/KDE3_pkgbuilds.tar.bz2
I have no idea, however, if all of them build properly, since the build run just started.

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Updated smile
There are still some language packages missing, but I need to go to sleep wink
Packages included in the repository (both i686/x86_64):
- all KDE3 packages (kde3-kde*) - all are members of kde3 group, so pacman -S kde3 should be enough.
- language packs: kde3-i18n-*
- KDE3 versions of some important packages: kde3-archlinux-themes-kdm kde3-kdebluetooth kde3-kgtk kde3-knetworkmanager kde3-ktorrent kde3-yakuake
- Some dependencies for those packages (no need to install them manually): kde3-kdmtheme kde3-ortp bluez (from testing) gnokii (from testing) openobex (from testing)
- Some additional KDE3-related packages: kmuddy (and its dependency libmxp) krypt lapsus
- Updated versions of some packages from [extra]: amarok-base amarok-engine-xine kdevelop (there is newer version available, plus package in [extra] has some dependency issues with svn)

If someone had kde3 packages from this repo already installed, pacman -Syu (and accepting replacing several packages) should do the trick.

KDE4 can be installed next to KDE3. The only problem remaining is that even in KDE3 nepomukserver is starting, but it's not a big deal - it doesn't interfere in any way.
KDE3 entry should be available in both KDM3 (started by /etc/rc.d/kdm3) and KDM4 (/etc/rc.d/kdm)

The user using KDE3 should add: "source /etc/profile.d/kde3.sh" to his ~/.bashrc file (and to .bash_profile, if it doesn't run .bashrc).
Without that KDE3 will run fine, but /opt/kde/bin will not be in PATH, so running, for example, "kwrite" from the terminal will run KDE4 version of the application.

kde3-kdelibs provides 'kdelibs3' (and should be compatible), so it's still possible to use all KDE3 apps from official Arch repos (like digikam).

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

I dont have to source kde.sh, /opt/kde/bin is in my PATH already. strange ;P

I have one suggestion: kde3-kdepim needs libopensync-0.22, could you add that to the repo, too? there are working PKGBUILDs in AUR.

Before I forget: It runs very nice here, many thanks :-)

Edit: @firewalker: that should be a config issue, here it is perfectly normal. Back up your kde config and try with a plain one.

kde3-kkbswitch kde3-showimg kiosktool libkexif libopensync mozillaqs schafkopf

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Added kde3-gwenview and kde3-gwenview-i18n.

Well, help would be very appreciated smile
There are some packages that used to be in Arch's repos, and now are either missing, or in versions for KDE4 only.
(Or maybe some apps for KDE3 that are and were only in AUR?)

If you could create PKGBUILDs for (at least some of) them (and check if they build), I could add them to the repository as well.
You could search AUR for kdemod ( http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?K=kdemod ), and grab PKGBUILDs from there.
It would be great to have more packages in the repo - and quite easy, since PKGBUILDs from kdemod probably
don't need many changes to work with kde3.

All my pkgbuilds are here if you need them: http://sjakub.net/arch/KDE3_pkgbuilds.tar.bz2 (just updated the pack with the most recent versions)

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Two for you :-)

pkgname=kima
pkgver=0.7.4
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="This applet monitors various sources such as temperature, frequency and fan speed values in your kicker panel."
url="http://kima.sourceforge.net/"
license=('GPL')
depends=('qt3' 'kdelibs')
makedepends=('pkgconfig')
arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
source=(http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/$pkgname/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
md5sums=(ed93c3a6871b514726fcdc6fbf49bba4)

build() {
cd "$srcdir/$pkgname-$pkgver"

./configure --prefix=/usr --prefix=$(kde-config --prefix)
make || return 1
make DESTDIR="$pkgdir" install
}

and this one:

pkgname=kthinkbat
pkgver=0.2.9
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Laptop battery monitor for the KDE panel"
arch=("i686" "x86_64")
url="https://lepetitfou.dyndns.org/projects/kthinkbat"
license=('GPL')
depends=('kdelibs3' 'kde3-kdebase')
makedepends=( 'autoconf' 'automake' )
source=(https://lepetitfou.dyndns.org/download/kthinkbat/src/kthinkbat-0.2.x/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.bz2)
md5sums=('aaf3a1e84b833a500b42a99dc5c0fd84')

build() {

  cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
 [ -f /etc/profile.d/qt3.sh ] && source /etc/profile.d/qt3.sh
  ./configure --prefix=$(kde-config --prefix) --without-arts
  make || return 1

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Thanks smile
Just two things - maybe just send those pkgbuilds to me (so this topic doesn't get too cluttered ): sjakub at gmail dot com. (And if there are any additional files it will be easier too.
And, at least some of the packages should have kde3- prefix (I assumed that packages that just use kdelibs has kdelibs3 as a dependency, and don't have a conflict with KDE4 version - have their original name without kde3- prefix - all others, like ktorrent, which exists in both kde3 and kde4 versions, or those depending on kde3-kdebase, are with kde3- prefix).
If you have pkgname=kde3-something, just use: ${pkgname/kde3-} instead of $pkgname in PKGBUILD smile

I just ran into that "disappearing menu icons" thing with Control Center as well.  My /opt/kde/etc/xdg/menus only had kde-applications-merged/ and kde-applications.menu in it for some reason.  Afteer copying the directory like you did and doing the symlink thing it still didn't work (KInfoCenter suffered the same problem).  Everything was in Lost & Found.  My solution was to import the /menus/ directory from my leftover Fedora install on another partition.  Everything works now; the icons still have duplicates in Lost & Found but I think I'll leave them there...:|

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Update: There are some new packages in the repo (mostly modified kdemod3-* packages from AUR):

kde3-btype kde3-compiz-decorator kde3-d3lphin kde3-decor-crystal kde3-dolphin kde3-gtk-qt-engine kde3-icons-crystaldiamond kde3-k9copy kde3-katapult
kde3-kboincspy kde3-kdbg kde3-kid3 kde3-kima kde3-knemo kde3-kpowersave kde3-ksplash-engine-moodin kde3-quadkonsole kde3-style-polyester

As for the icon problem - here everything looks fine, so I can't examine the problem.
The only thing I have noticed is, that for some reason by default Konqueror misses lots of buttons in the toolbars.
I don't know yet what the reason is...

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Woohoo!  Ksplash-Moodin!!!!!!!!:D
Didn't think anyone would bother with that. Hey, it's the little things that separate the great from the merely good.
Man, I love this distro!
EDIT: As far as the Kcontrol and KInfoCenter icons, it appears that a few .menu files aren't making it into /opt/kde/etc/xdg/.  So far my recommendation for anyone who runs into this problem is:
1) The Easy Way, copy the .menu files from either /etc/xdg/ or /opt/kde/etc/xdg/ in an existing kde install (3.5.9 will work for this as well, don't know about earlier versions) or
2) The Hard Way, edit the Control Center menu manually
I've seen posts about this in *buntu and SuSE forums as well, so I don't think it's an Arch thing specifically.

Does your .bash_profile call .bashrc? (if not, you need to add this line to .bash_profile as well)
