But what was wrong with that "minimal shell". It did the job, at least for me.
I think an install cd is to install the system, not to work as a live distro. But aparently everybody is happy with the change, so why bother ha??
Well if you are happy with the old installation minimal shell I think you can still use it. You don't even need to download a new install cd, if you have one previous cd with ftp, you will install the newest packages anyway. So my question is why you need to download and install cd again. I never used the previous cd since I just installed arch this year, so I'm happy with the installer, it is easy to use and to understand.

I do not know I can use the previous installation cd. I mean, I can, but I do not know if it will work well. I have not tested yet, but according to toofishes:
This is probably the worst suggestion I've seen, which is why I am finally responding to this thread. You will end up spending twice as much time re-upgrading every package on your system if you do a CD install, and I doubt the FTP install will even work. But good luck!
I belive he knows what he is talking about, after all he is a developer, so he is more into the internals of Archlinux than I do.
Anyway you can see the complete thread in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=54542.

I am taking a renewed interest in the install CD and installer, and will be devoting lots of attention to this in the near future. Don't fear, I will be addressing as much of this as I can.
