All works ok here, too on amd64 and gnome-2.24. The only thing that is not good is esd. There is no logout sound and esd seizes /dev/dsp and snack won't work.

The long awaited pulseaudio for gnome did not make it for this release either sad

ubuntu adopted pulseaudio in hardy but it made more problems than it solved, so I am very happy gnome sound user on arch wink

Re: Gnome 2.24

have any of you seen the 'shutdown' button in Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 ?
It's amazing.
check the screenshot I posted here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php? … 1223073019
Not only is it much more efficient (i hate the popup feel of the button. when in a hurry, a menu works much better), but it integrates with both pidgin and the empathy IM
I asked in the ubuntu forums, and they seemed to think it was an official GNOME thing, (and not an Ubuntu specific patch).

So is this something to come? or is it Ubuntu specific?

It seems to me something related to Empathy, the default IM client for gnome 2.24

Why on earth did an IM client have a shutdown menu?

Well, I like the idea since being online/offline in your commucations is sth similar to hibernating the PC or shutting it down, at least IMO. But, the question is:
Does anyone know if Empathy has some "cool" plugins like pidgintex for Pidgin (that means using LaTeX code in your chats)? And how far is the development anyway?

Re: Gnome 2.24

Gnome 2.24 just arrived in "extra" for x86_64 smile

Some things like empathy are still missing, but the "core" packages are available.

Re: Gnome 2.24

Yea, the fast user applet is now part of the shutdown button
then, if you load either Pidgin or Empathy, it integrates with the shutdown/Fast user Applet button.
it's really cool.
Those are the kinds of improvements I want in gnome. VISIBLE improvements.

I'll check back when i go home if just adding the applet does this (it should work with and without an IM, so no need to wait for empathy to test)

p.s. thanks for reposting my pic Killajoe smile
