ok, this is really pissing me off. Since the upgrade my shut down dialog doesn't work at all, it opens with the options of restart, cancel and shutdown (used to have hibernate and suspend as well) unfortunately, both shutdown and suspend do exactly nothing, my computer keeps on humming like normal, which is just a slight inconvenience. The worst part is the only options I have under power management now is to blank the screen or do nothing when closing the lid.. rather annoying, I used to have this set to suspend but I guess I can't do this anymore. All of this worked fine in 2.22, help?

Maybe I'm late on this, but anyway...

I've had the very same problem and it was because I was running Gnome without gdm. Once I had gdm loading my gnome session, all went back to normal.

Re: Gnome 2.24

For the record with regard to my previous post about broken themes,

I tried running the same themes in ubuntu intrepid ibex to see if I perhaps set something up wrong or failed to install something and I had the same error given (GTK+ engine " missing, whatever " is), however it -did- render correctly as far as I could tell (which it did not on Arch). Perhaps I will have another go at it in the coming weeks.

Like amranu I too am experiencing shutdown issues. The install is a clean install of Arch and not an upgrade to Gnome 2.24. The only way to shutdown the machine is to click on shutdown, then logoff and this will shut the machine down, similarly with reboot, click on reboot then click on logoff and the machine will reboot. I have set inittab to be runlevel 5 and launch GDM there.

i also deleted .gnome2/rhythmnbox just to be sure, but the same thing happens
pausing and restarting playback causes the crashes crashes.

I do a fresh install of Archlinux with Gnome 2.24 and do not use any old configs in /home/user with the same effect..

Will take a look to /var/log messeges  and so on tonight..

you should only need to be in group power. i'm not in hal and dbus and honestly wouldn't add my users to those groups as i understand they are for these daemons and provide certain privileges that normal users shouldn't need.
i add my users to power and reboot, shutdown and suspend work fine for me.

I saw that empathy is stucked in testing, there are problems that stop developers from putting it in extra?
I know there is also an aur pkgbuild but i would to see it in extra as part of gnome smile

Re: Gnome 2.24

even if i have files in the trash bin, i can see them if i open the bin with nautilus, but the 'empty trash' button is still greyed out and i can't empty it. the icon of the bin is the one that show it as empty instead of a full one

so the bin seems to think it is empty while it is not.

anyone having that problem ? how to fix that ?

the files are from my $HOME

is it related to the upgrade to gnome 2.24 ?

Edit:
the trash applet works though

Re: Gnome 2.24

Where's your trash location? If it's ~/.Trash, then you will have to rm this dir as its deprecated.

Re: Gnome 2.24

Try deleting ~/.local/share/Trash
I think that the files are in ~/.local/share/Trash/files but without metadata linked to them from info/

Re: Gnome 2.24

Open gconf-editor as user , go to apps > nautilus > desktop and see if  trash-icon_visible  is checked, its possible gconf has slightly changed, with newer versions  (just guessing). and uncheck/check it to see if anything changes.
Its also an easy way to remove the trash icon from your desktop and use the trash applet instead

it works again. i don't know why.
i have  unchecked  and a day later checked again /apps/nautilus/desktop/trash_icon_visible
may be that's why it works again
i had also all my icon on desktop that disapeared. i logut/login and they were back. related ?
