Hey guys,
catalyst_build_module all fails with the new version of the Arch stock kernel (3.1.9-1), says "vmlinux is truncated".
Here is my build log: http://pastie.org/3180089
Anyone got a clue?
Greetings

@kritter: It should be fixed in linux 3.1.9-2.

Yes, it's fixed now but I do wonder what the cause was in the kernel package? Haven't found any information regarding that.

If I understand it correctly, 3.1.9-1 was compiled with the wrong libarchive version.

What steps should I take to install the Catalyst / Catalyst-generator with non-standard kernel? *FUUUUUU face*
I installed (copied) fglrx manually into the folder, but get this error: FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/3.1.9/extramodules-3.1.9/fglrx.ko.gz): Invalid module format.

Arch's wiki on Catalys is pretty clear. Add the Catalyst repo and/or download from there catalyst-utils and catalyst-generator of the version you want to install. Install them then follow the instructions catalyst-generator gives you. It's pretty straightforward.
A rule in Arch is to inform yourself the best you can do before asking, what you did - directly copying a .gz file in your /lib folder - is not very wise either way. Please read some more wiki next time.

olorian, I know how to install Catalyst I have not any problems up to version 11.8, when fglrx installed in the /lib/modules/{vershion}/video. It all started with the changes of extramodules.
For example, "catalyst_build_module all" is generated module only for the original kernel. Non-standard does not see catalyst. And package catalyst is installed in the default standard kernel modules.
And another thing: I boot without mkinitcpio.
Can you let me specify the exact string, or an excerpt from the wiki where there a solution to my problem? Thx

Has the issue where playing a video with default settings restarts X been fixed?
I'm still using Xorg 1.10 until I'm sure that's properly fixed, because I don't want to risk crashing X if I ever launch a video player with an "offending" codec.

@koshon:
i think the problem is in your custom kernel's PKGBUILD which differs from the originall arch's linux package standard (yours /lib/modules/3.1.9/extramodules-3.1.9/ is far away from /lib/modules/3.1.9-2-ARCH/extramodules -> ../extramodules-3.1-ARCH). Either fix it by looking how ie. linux-mainline or linux-ck is doing this, or edit /usr/bin/catalyst_build_module and modify check_ext() function.
@achilleas.k:
no, it has not been fixed, [xorg110] ftw

I've found a workaround to make gnome3 usable with catalyst.
1) Open amdcccle
2) Change and revert any setting so that the OK button becomes clickable.
3) Click OK.
Gnome3 shell works much better now. Unfortunately you will need to do this everytime you login.

Hey all, so I've been using and upgrading catalyst-total for a while now and went to update it, since I see there was a change this month in the dependancies for 'linux<3.3'. Anyways, while trying to update, I get this as an error:
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: lib32-libgl and catalyst-total are in conflict. Remove catalyst-total? [y/N]
Can't install one without removing the other. How should I handle this so I can update my system? [can't exactly update, or update to the new kernel, since the catalyst total currently installed wants 'linux<3.2']

Installing aur/gnome-shell-extension-gnome2-notifications-git solves all glitches with catalyst&gnome shell, disregard my previous post

I can see that linux 3.2.1 appeared in [core] repo, unfortunatelly atm im in work and then i've got some meeting, so i'll perform [catalyst] repo update later.
@Squiddles:
this is strange, maybe pacman 4 is parsing code in the other way. I will check it out, but later.
Dirty temp solution: what if you will add lib32-libgl into IgnorePkg array of pacman.conf?

the repository http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/ has been updated today, but no updates have arrived. Why?

Solution 4 my #3581, #3583 posts:
I removed source non-standard kernel files from /usr/src/{non-standard_kernel}, added new, recompile kernel and.. catalyst_build_module work fine!

Just got around to doing this and it did let me update this time. Though, I'm not sure if I should be wary of the fact that before it was letting me know that lib32-mesa and lib32-qt depended on lib32-libgl [which then conflicted with catalyst-total].
Thanks! I didn't know there was an 'IgnorePkg' section of pacman.conf.

the repository http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/ has been updated today, but no updates have arrived. Why?
Yeah, yesterday i had no time to even announce it, sorry.
It's about catalyst-11.12 package which was compiled for linux 3.2.1, without this update those who are using this package were unable to perform sys update.
@Squiddles:
yes, that wasn't normal behaviour, and i must to check it, but <heh> today still i got no time... i will investigate it tomorrow. Or if you have got time then please tell me what's inside "Conflicts with", "Provides" and "Replaces" arrays in the output of pacman -Qi catalyst-total command

This means that users of the [catalyst] repository can update their system now?

Hi!
when i try to update catalyst-total (after solving circular depndencies beween linux 3.2 and catalyst-total) i get :
Erreur : '/tmp/yaourt-tmp-goofy/PKGDEST.lKM/*.pkg.tar.xz': impossible de trouver ou de lire le paquet (cant find or read the package)
Any idea please ?
Offline
Ok find a solution : pacman -U PKGDEST.lKM/catalyst-total-11.12-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

@Squiddles:
just checked your lib32-libgl problem, but i'm unable to reproduce such bug
Edit: but wait, didn't you comment [multilib] repository lately? ie. accidently with latest pacman 4 update with command like: mv pacman.conf.pacnew pacman.conf? cuz this bug looks like you were using this [multilib] repo some time ago, and now it's commented
@goofy03:
ah, looks like yaourt is unable to read local variable PKGEXT= from PKGBUILD, so with catalyst-total 11.12-2 i reverted it to default, should be fine now
This means that users of the [catalyst] repository can update their system now?
Yes

I did use [multilib], and I had to uncomment it since the recent pacman update.
