Is suspend to ram working for you in 64 bit?
I don't use those fancy things on my laptop, have never seen the use for them, so I can't tell you. But, I can tell you that maybe soon I'll be able to post a catalyst driver that does not need a patched kernel.

Uuuuu very good news!
Untill this happy day i will use the only sollution that comes to my mind for my problem discribe in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 36#p574336 and which solution is:
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng stop
(don't do this at home )

I just want to say Thank You kensai
You are going well beyond the call of duty with this patching of the kernel and such. Looks like your putting a lot of work into helping all us suckers that got an ATI card At lest ATI has a future with the development of the Open driver. I have a 3year warranty so I have time to wait....
Ya, I see no need for suspend or hibernate on a *nix laptop.( Windows laptop takes 30min's to boot and 45min's to shutdown so I can see why you would need suspend then.) When it is on, I am using it or it is downloading a torrent so it could not be suspended anyway. If I am not using it that means I am sleeping, so I'd rather just put it in it's case off and deal with the 13sec boot time.

Well, Maybe not....
I just added your repo and installed the catalyst/kernel26 & pacman -S catalyst & yaourt -S catalyst-utils
I now get a kernel panic twice.... I am in a live CD so I'll just cut and pased the logs into here for you to see.
Well shoot. It is to long to post. I don't have time to mess around with web file hosting stuff.
I did save all the log files to my SD card so if you want them just ask.
"Why owe Y" didn't I backup I am so stupid... Now I have to ether find a way to roll back the kernel of my non-booting system Or find out how to upgrade to kernel 2.6.29 and not 2.6.30 and not stay on the CD's 2.6.28? Dam I even have and empty 160GB external HHD sitting right next to me.... This is all my fault. However, Arch should save the old Kernel and move it to back-up kernel in GRUB whenever you install a new Kernel. Is that to much to ask?
Edit: OK good I never cleaned out the pacman cache ((and never will ever agin )) so I have the 2.6.29 kernel and kernel-firmware.
Edit: It seems that my Kernel panic after 5secons after boot like just after login.... This mite be a bug in the 2.6.30 Kernel it self and not your patching of it.

yeah, hunterthomson, you should install the vanilla one from extra and see if you get the same, I doubt my kernel with the patch does any bad to it.
No Problem Kensai your Kernel is just fine.
I am happy to report that I found the answer super fast. The problem is with WICD / Combo with many wireless cards.
I have Intel WiFi 5300 and was using WICD. I found this thread...
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 49#p574549
So, I just booted into a live Ubuntu and then !banged out the wicd in the deamons array in rc.conf. Now no kernel panic Owe, and games work and all so no problem with the catalyst ether. Though flash seems to have gotten worse.

Hmm, unfortunately this does not work for me (on x86_64). After adding the repo I've done:
pacman -Sy catalyst/kernel26
pacman -Rd libgl
yaourt -S --aur catalyst-utils
pacman -S catalyst/catalyst
updated xorg.conf to use fglrx and now attempting to startx gives me the following output:

thank you, thank you, thank you!
i need suspending very much and i've spend lots of time trying to fix it before i found this thread and your post. i've installed your kernel and catalyst and everything works perfect now!

How did you make it not need the kernel patch? I had the same patches you have (i think) it was crashing with the core kernel with out the patch. Can you show me what you edited to get this work with core kernel?

If you want to make sure, buy nVidia. At least at this moment, Intels video drivers are a mess at least.
True, but at least they're open. And I have to say, I've had no problems at all with my Aspire One. (Talk about tempting fate... )

Well, the patch are the things doing it, did you have all the exact patches there are in the PKGBUILD and the exact patch options? If not, that could be it. I did not change any patch, they are as original as they have always been.

I did notice there are a couple more patches attached to the gentoo bug for 32 bit support, you might want to try them as well? I recall at least one of the ebuilds used the flush_tlb_page patch ( http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=266819 )

Hi fellow Ati-users,
I don't have something to contribute, I just wanted to thank Kensai and all others who might possibly be enganged with providing the patched ati drivers for their engagement. I'm really impressed by
the continuing endurance you all have compensating the work ati doesn't do.
Keep up the good work!

Who has (working) instructions on how to do this manually for those with custom kernels?

yes, it works just like it should. i close the lid, it goes to sleep, i open the lid, it wakes up. no matter if i'm in x or in the console. the scteen turns back on. everything is nice and smooth.
hm, actually, come to think of that, i've just checked the pm-suspend.log and it seems a little strange:

@kensai
There is still a problem with new catalyst PKGBUILD. First it caused a kernel opps. I couldn't get the kernel opps on file since my screen went black. Had to do a hard reboot.
Secord is this code when build your new catalyst:
WARNING: "flush_tlb_page" [/home/arch/Desktop/catalyst/src/archive_files/common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/fglrx.ko] undefined!
This shows me that your new catalyst my not work for me at all.
PS I have tryed with the flush_tlb_page_94.patch for catalyst package. This will still make the ati driver/kernel freeze with glxinfo and glxgears. So i still think patching the kernel is the best solution for right now.
EDIT:
more code to show the problem (in dmesg this time):
fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
fglrx: Unknown symbol flush_tlb_page
Hope it helps.

+1 the_isz.
I tried the new catalyst package working fine. Also messages log are getting filled with fglx errors. I will try the newly uploaded PKGBUILD as kensai said. With the current build suspend and resume are not working. come back with the results for the new PKGBUILD.

catalyst 9.6-2 from AUR works straight up for me. Seen some noticable improvements [glxgears 2500fps -> 8400fps] but VT/Xsession switching still results in CPU hard lock
Offline
kwin kept crashing for me with the AUR catalyst and unpatched kernel.
TBH I couldn't care less. Catalyst is dead, long live radeon (when it actually gets to a usable state with 7xx).

I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my brother computer with nvidia 8600GT. Everything works perfectly and he got like 100FPS on some games like Tibia. The same game and my new computer with glxgears is showing:
[mazur@localhost ~]$ glxgears
138 frames in 5.1 seconds = 26.841 FPS
87 frames in 5.0 seconds = 17.239 FPS
I am sorry but I am sick of this support for Linux. There is noit drivers for my printer, there is no drivers for my graphics card so I need to use Windows now . On open source driver I got 3FPS whereas on Catalyst I got 16FPS on Tibia. What the hell?
