@Roken:
i just noted this strange "hack":
/usr/lib/modules/3.5.0-git is a link to /usr/lib/modules/3.5.0-rc6+
...
what if you will just:
catalyst_build_module 3.5.0-rc6+

Now that's odd. I tried that yesterday and got the failure, just tried again and it completed without an issue. Rebooted to the 3.5 kernel and fglrx is now working. Perhaps when I tried yesterday I did so without the firegl patch, I honestly can't remember for sure.
I'll see how things go now
Thank you. Nice work.
EDIT: Update: Everything seems to be running sweet. Tested the gfx driver with some demanding stuff and no problems. Fully updated system (with the exception of audiofile, which breaks oss if I update). Strangely, all hardware is working, too. I was expecting problems using a 2 generation old .config, but looks like I nailed it

Hello together,
I've installed the catalyst driver (from [catalyst] repo) but the aticonfig tool doesn't work. (xf86-video-ati works but the performance isn't very good.)
I'm using an AMD c60 (AMD Fusion APU which comes with HD6290) and it worked in Chakra (2012.07) and Mageia 2 but that's the output when I want to create the xorg.conf file in my arch:
$ aticonfig --initial
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected
lspci:
$ lspci
...
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Wrestler [Radeon HD 6290]
...
I used the minimal xorg.conf and I can use lxde now but I have an "Unsopported hardware" watermark now in the right/downside corner and I can't start any games like redeclipse. Here is the output:
$ sh redeclipse.sh
loading enet..
loading game..
init: server (*:28801)
loading sdl..
loading video mode..
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 139 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 14

I hope you can tell me why this error appears and give me some tips.
Thanks in advance,
Fliegenfalle

It seems catalyst 12.6 thinks HD6320 is unsupported hardware, despite it working just fine with the driver. Seems to be the same problem Fliegenfalle is having.

@Fliegenfalle & @FreeFull:
maybe this will help:
overwrite /etc/at/control and /etc/ati/signature files with this files:

Thanks for the post but now I get this error:
$ aticonfig --initial
Found fglrx primary device section
Unable to find any supported Screen sections
I don't have the watermark any more but it doesn't work without problems yet

Hi guys, i'm using the catalyst driver for the moment because i'm exeperiencing some powersaving problem with the radeon free driver. I try to have so information about the gpu fan, the voltage of the gpu and his temperature.
First of all, the sensors of my gpu aren't recognized by lm-sensors.
I find and try some option :
aticonfig --odgc
give me some interesting results
but, no access to temp
aticonfig --odgt
ERROR - Get temperature failed for the Default Adapter - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
And when i try these lines from the wiki to get the fan speed, it doesn't work
aticonfig --pplib-cmd "get fanspeed 0"
So i tried running the amdoverdrivectrl program to get some info, but it fails to give me the fan speed and the gpu temp too. I was guessing i'll get more info with the catalyst driver about my gpu. It can be useful to help devs with my problem running the radeon free driver (no powersaving and a very noisy gpu fan).
If someone has an idea...
Much obliged
By the way, great work on the catalyst-legacy, it works perfect for my Mobility HD4650.

Sorry to say this, but I have this exact graphics card and it's powersaving does not work at all with the free radeon driver, too. No action on the reported bug at freedesktop, even dumped my firmware and stuff like that.
I also have problems with getting temperature, fan speed and current clock speed with the catalyst tools. My advice for you is this: Just be happy to use catalyst-legacy and hope for some kind of reaction on the missing powersaving features...
The problem is that some PCI lanes get switched off, but then the screen gets kind of irky and is not usable.
Well, that's my side of the story.

Interesting what glxinfo outputs:
$ glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 139 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13

It looks like fglrx's opengl module doesn't work.

Hmm great, another dude with my card AND my bug !
I report a bug too, maybe i miss yours.
but then the screen gets kind of irky and is not usable
Someting like that maybe ? : D
(sorry, i do not have a picture with smaller resolution...)
Thx for your reply man. That isn't give me hope at all, but it's still a answer.

@Spartakus I had got the same screen with an nvidia gt240 card which isn't supported by nouveau so I think only the proprietary driver works with your card. Please switch to onboard graphics in your bios to install it and after that set your ati card as primary. And don't forget to connect your monitor to the onboard output as I did and wondered why I just saw a black screen

@Fliegenfalle
I had a similar problem with glxgears and glxinfo which returns a bad request error like yours.
My Solution:
1.After boot go to a text terminal (STRG+ALT+F1-6), stop kdm/gdm/etc.
2.rmmod fglrx
3. Restart kdm/gdm/etc.
My custom settings get lost at every reboot, solution: make your settings standard using (root) aticonfig tool.
At the moment I have a quite unstable situation on my PC (which needs a reboot every day due to X hang up) running this catalyst version, but I'm used to with AMD + Linux. °_°
If it wasn't for XVBA support I would have get the open-source driver.

1.After boot go to terminal, stop kdm/gdm/etc.
...
I couldn't move to a virtual console or use "exit" as username but than I have uninstalled SLiM and I executed the command but now (after SLiM install) nothing happened

Ok, I forgot to mention to use the Text Terminal with STRG+ALT+F1
I updated the post above

sorry for my bad english (I'm 13 years old)
of course I used the text terminals but when slim is installed they are all frozen. At the bottom of the page I can just see "welcome to Arch Linux!"
I think this was different 2 days ago I don't have the problem just with systemd.

Hello,
Is there any problem with the catalyst-hook? I am compiling the Linux kernel on my own (currently I am using 3.3.7-zen+ whose source directory is linked to /usr/src/linux) and afterwards I type something similar to "mkinitcpio -k 3.3.7-zen+ -g /boot/initramfs-3.3.7-zen+.img"
Now, normally the fglrx module should be placed at "/lib/modules/3.3.7-zen+", but I can see fglrx.ko.gz at "/lib/modules" and I'm not so sure what to do next. Any help?
Offline
Random note:
$ find /lib -type f -exec pacman -Qo {} \;
/lib/initcpio/install/fglrx is owned by catalyst-hook 12.6-2
[...] is owned by glibc 2.16.0-1
catalyst-hook seems to be preventing me from updating and I'm afraid that I won't be able to reinstall it if I uninstall it and update glibc. Would it be possible to move this into /usr/lib?

@Undeterminant:
just noted that glibc -2 landed in [core], firstly remove -hook, install glibc and then install -hook
I won't be able to perform changes today, i will probably do this tomorrow
BTW you can try to use testing package (you have to build it on your own): https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1127407

Thanks, Vi0L0. I just updated and it seems to have worked out. I'll just wait for the official to package to go through at this point.

Help! What exactly do you mean by remove/install '-hook'? What terminal commands am I looking at?
I've installed Linux 3.4.4 (plus the other updates) this morning but can't get glibc to come down because catalyst is dependent on /lib/modules/extramoduls. The problem is that my current Arch setup has a bug with the Gnome-Shell screen lock (which is what I was trying to fix). I'm afraid that if I leave my computer idle for longer than 30 mins and screen locks up, I'll be have to force reboot it and I'm only halfway through upgrading Linux and then my whole system will be hosed. Please, if anyone can give me a bit more insight into how to fix this, it would be very appreciated.

@PhilipWitte:
ie:
pacman -R catalyst-hook
pacman -Syu --ignore glibc
pacman -Su
pacman -S catalyst-hook
BTW: atm im working on updates of catalyst pkgs so it should support glibc properly (got updates on AUR for catalyst, -hook, -daemon, -generator, -total atm)

Okay thanks! I'm still having trouble with 'pacman -Su' conflicting with /lib, but reading the Wiki I think I understand it better now. I will post again if I have anymore problems.
I didn't actually have catalyst-hook installed, and that's why I didn't understand your original post.

ok, i'm almost done - i only need to update 12.4 repo and that's all about glibc update... ufff...
all packages now in catalyst, catalyst-hd234k and catalyst-hd234k-12.4 repos would also support kernel 3.5
te code maybe isn't as clean as i want and i need to made some little fixes but generally it should work fine.
Ofcourse i could made some typo :>
(+ i have to update catalyst-lts but don't have time atm, will perform it tomorrow)
