Unfixed bugs...
Have you ever tried to file a bug report for the Catalyst Linux driver?

Nope, I don't know how to debug to file a bug report for video drivers.

@MadNoob:
You did well, thanks!
I've updated AUR and [catalyst] + [catalyst-stable] repos to catalyst 13.4.
Happy testing
In case of problems you can always use archive repositories:
-stable:
[catalyst-stable-13.1]
Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/catalyst/$arch
- beta:
[catalyst-13.3-beta3]
Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/catalyst/$arch

Why didn't the official repo version of catalyst stay? I don't get why it couldn't just have a "requires xorg-server < 1.14". It was painful when I Syu'd and rebooted and mysteriously lost X (actually I couldn't even get a terminal without booting into single-user due to missing module).

Virtual terminals disappeared with catalyst 13.4 (catalyst-total from AUR), just a blank screen. Could not even come back to X. I have HD 5770 connected to a monitor through HDMI. Anyone else experiencing this new feature?

Yes, VTs seem to be still an issue...
I'm not facing your problem, but with my screen configuration (dual-head, left screen is rotated, right screen normal orientation),
I only have the VT on the left rotated screen. The other screen is blank. It's not quite ergonomic to work on a rotated VT.
At least, I can switch between VTs and X without issues.
I'm not tempted to file a(nother) bug report.
AMD does not seem to care about my other.

So I gave up hope already.
BTW, thanks Vi0L0!

I got this in 13.3 too.
I got workaround from one of the bug reports in the unofficial site : just pass vga=... (say vga=792 ) to kernel from grub
This fixed it for me

Hello,
Just a quick notice --- xorg-server 1.13.4 is out, so it would be good if Vi0L0 updates his [xorg113] repo. It adresses some security issues, notably. I'm sorry if this was already noted.
Sorry for my poor English.

Same here. Firstly I thought that it's caused by my xorg-server 1.13.4, but no.
Wondering what's that?.. hmm... At least it doesn't seem to cause any damage.

There seems to be also a new bug with people still using xorg 1.12 with radeon2k to 4k and gnome 3.8 A lot of stuff simply isn't working anymore because it's getting a bit old, but there is also a patch that is out which restore functionnality to the gnome shell. I can't even click any menu in gnome-terminal or acess user account settings, or burn with brasero, etc. without it dying on me with a x window system error about not implementing the required function.
Anyway, if you would be so kind as to rebuild xorg 1.12 with the said patch, it can be found (as well as some more explanation about the problem) in this thread.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=162012
I'm actually wondering if it affects everyone with gnome 3.8 and xorg 1.12?

Anon11, THANK YOU 32,768 times over for your advice about setting the video mode (nb: it must be a VESA mode, not a VGA mode) in the boot command. I was frantic with worry that I had broken something with the last update... good to know (a) it's not just me and (2) there's a workaround.
Do you suppose this should be in the wiki?

Well I was going to post to ask if anyone was having any problems with the regular catalyst-total package and the 3.8.10 kernel, but in checking between older versions of the kernel and back to 3.8.10 again, it seems to have fixed itself.
Apparently it just had to run mkinitcpio again?? I tried various other things like commenting the BusID line in xorg.conf, and switching between 13.1 (which did work) and 13.4, but that didn't do the trick so I guess it must be this.
For future reference though, here's the errors I was getting.
[ 26.477] (EE) fglrx(0): DAL initialization failed!
[ 26.477] (EE) fglrx(0): Display Infrastructure Failed
[ 26.477] (EE) fglrx(0): PreInit failed
[ 26.639] (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
[ 26.639] (EE)
[ 26.639] (EE) Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.
[ 26.639] (EE)
False alarm I guess.

Shouldn't catalyst from hd234k also work with xorg113? The wiki says < 12.10 doesn't support 1.13. But the one in hd234k is catalyst 13.1. So doesn't that work with xorg 1.13?

Catalyst legacy a.k.a. hd234k doesn't work with xorg-server >1.12, while standard catalyst does. Don't be confused by versione numbers: same version numbers for standard and legacy drivers don't mean same features, especially xorg-server support.

Good job Anon,
your hint works fine.
So atm with Catalyst 13.4 + Xorg 1.13 my A8 system seems to work fine: no more kernel panic at shutdown/reboot, no mode problems with virtual terminals switching.

I've got a little issue I am hoping someone can help me with. today my updates showed up catalyst-utils lib32-catalyst-utils on the AUR. I am getting failures installing them. It seems my versions are all over the place.
catalyst-dkms 13.1-2
catalyst-hook 13.4-1
catalyst-utils 13.1-5
lib32-catalyst-utils 13.1-2
==> Finished making: catalyst-utils 13.4-1 (Tue Apr 30 00:04:49 EST 2013)
loading packages...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: catalyst-dkms: requires catalyst-utils=13.1
:: lib32-catalyst-utils: requires catalyst-utils=13.1
So I tried to install from the catalyst repo which of course gave same result, same as attempting to install catalyst-total over it. Can i just force catalyst-total to install over it to get all versions inline? If anyone can give me a fix it would be much appreciated. Thanks! and thanks to Vi0L0 for maintaining them.

Well then shouldn't the wiki be updated to say that catalyst <13.1 doesn't work with xorg 1.12 instead of catalyst 12.1?

Never used catalyst-dkms but I think that it conflicts with catalyst-hook (AFAIK both provide fglx module). Remove catalyst-dkms and reinstall catalyst-hook. BTW there's some missing conflict in some PKGBUILD...
