Do I still need to be using xorg 1.14 (the repo) with the latest catalyst? There seems to be conflicting reports regarding its support
No, you don't. catalyst 14.4 is doing well with xserver 1.15

Thanks Vi0L0, my system is updated right now. Although ati-dri was not found, I removed lib32-ati-dri and I could update my machine

During today's update I get:

Is it safe to remove them before updating?

Same here.
I did a pacman -R 'lib32-catalyst-utils'
After that I updated the System (pacman -Syu), then I could install the lib32-catalyst-utils and lib32-catalyst-libgl without problems.

Yes, this update is showing and fixing some odd problem with symlinks. I noticed it when switching from lib32-catalyst-utils to catalyst-test and decided to correct it. Like said this update is fixing so you won't notice such problem in the future.
Like luz1 noticed you can reinstall lib32-catalyst-utils or use --force option of pacman to overwrite files, it's safe.

It seems like there's been some changes in the repo from what I've been reading. I'm also having a couple strange issue that I've posted about and got no replies, which leads me to think it's a problem on my end. So, Vi0L0, would you mind posting up a list of the packages that should be installed for the latest catalyst driver (14.4 with the catalyst-hook method). Thanks

There was some symlinks fix and symlinks change which made packages better suited to the mesa standard, also catalyst-libgl package gained experimental powerXpress support, but nothing more. There's no change in catalysts package list. If you want to install whole catalysts pack you need to install:
i686:
pacman -Syu catalyst-hook catalyst-utils catalyst-libgl opencl-catalyst
x86_64:
pacman -Syu catalyst-hook catalyst-utils catalyst-libgl opencl-catalyst lib32-catalyst-utils lib32-catalyst-libgl lib32-opencl-catalyst

like said above there are three ways to fix it, every single one should work:
1st method:
if there's no more file conflicts you can use:
pacman -Su --force
2nd method:
is to remove and install again lib32-catalyst-utils package
3rd method:
is to remove conflicting files manually, and then update

Did you downgrade libgdm as well ?
By the way, it is nice to see AMD is really working on their drivers nowadays. With Catalyst 14.4 RC, graphic glitches I used to had in Chromium are gone.
I'm experiencing the same segfault. By downgrading gdm and libgdb to 3.10 it works again.
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks, but that didn't work for me either, I still have the seg fault with other error in the logs. Worth mentioning that I have hybrid graphic with both Intel HD 4400 and AMD Radeon HD 8850M. The error I have is when I downgraded to GDM and libGDM 3.10:

Yep. The version I have is 2.99.910-1. Have been ignoring xf86-video-intel update for a while but I tried everything. Don't think it has been fixed anyway.

Anyone experiencing "lag" with the 14.4 update? What I mean by this is moving windows around tends to be laggy, and it seems like the buffer doesn't properly refresh.
Example of the refresh issue: http://i.imgur.com/bxiNN9P.png This window wasn't there when the screenshot was taken (disregard the out of place shadow, it's an issue with compton). I've had this issue on other distributions, but never Arch. I've Googled around but can never find an actual resolution for this. I run a simple Openbox setup, so it's not like it's all that graphically intensive. I also updated to Xorg 1.15 hoping that'd help in some way, but it made no difference. I'm hoping Vi0L0 knows some kind of fix for this because he's done an outstanding job making sure Catalyst runs the way it should. Also, I apologize if this has been answered somewhere in this thread. I just have no idea what to search for on Google when it comes to this issue.

This update works very well for me on gnome shell 3.12, I only disabled vblank on /etc/environment, and enabled force vsync con amdccl , and all works fine, no lag, very stable performance.

gdm still doesn't work for me, i get segfaults.
I downgraded to 3.10 version, gdm starts but it needs a lot of time. (boot process about 50 sec.)
In the logs i could only find this:
gdm[332]: Failed to set slave bus name on parent: Zeitüberschreitung wurde erreicht
Another thing wich bothers me since i'm using catalyst is the not-smooth-scrolling.
3d-applications work well, but scrolling in Firefox is horrible.
Any suggestions out there, how to get fluent 2d performance?
My card is R7 260X

How did you do this? I've been looking around for what to put in there but can't seem to find it. Also keep in mind that I'm only running a window manager, but I have no idea if that makes a difference or not.

I don't have this issue with 2D applications. Firefox scrolling is perfectly fine. I don't quite understand why these problems vary so much among people.

All the years, before I got a new computer this year, I configured something in GRUB to disable KMS for the Catalyst driver and/or I disabled radeon and radeonfb in modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. I didn't do anything of one of them on my new computer, because A) don't know how to do that with UEFI/Gummiboot, B) I did not see anything in the Wiki guide.
I'm asking because I wonder, if this is a problem. I mean, I get radeon error messages in systemd, when booting. Also Metro: Last Light and Kerbal Space Program do freeze my PC. Do I really not have to do anything like disable KMS or disable radeon?

You'll still need to disable radeon via modprobe's blacklist as far as I'm aware, although generally that would cause fglrx not to load rather than random crashes later.
Offline
It should work fine without nomodesetting and not blacklisting radeon - just checked, seemed fine. Xserver is chosing fglrx way because it has fglrx inside xorg.conf, I only don't like that radeon module was unnecessary loaded . Believe that it's safer and better to not load it, so either add radeon.modeset=0 to the kernel options of boot loader or blacklist it in modprobe.
Btw like said above I also got problems with metro ll, so it's most probably the catalysts fault, dont have kerbal though.

Yes and I assume that on my macine it is because the fglrx module can't be built (and then systemd probably going to the fallback graphics).

Seems to be a problem with catalyst-hook and gcc.
A reinstall of the whole catalyst stack had no effect.
EDIT: Googling "fstack-protector-strong" revealed that it is a gcc 4.9 feature whereas I am on outdated gcc 4.8.2-8.
4.9 is on testing, so I hope it comes soon. I think I rather wait than switching to the testing repo.

You're right. I opened up testing only to install gcc (and multilib; and I know you shouldn't do it) and that fixed that.

I'm trying to install guest utils to share folders from Archlinux to a VM with windows, but I can't install it.
[david@archdavid:~]$ sudo pacman -S virtualbox-guest-utils
resolviendo dependencias...
verificando conflictos...
error: error al preparar la transacción (no se pudieron satisfacer las dependencias)
:: catalyst-total-hd234k: necesita xorg-server<1.13.0
But I could install virtualbox-guest-modules without problems
My system is up-to-date right now. How can I solve this?
