I don't understand why seems to be powered off, can't  let graphic card works neither with open driver neither with proprietary. Anyone got same problem?

I think issues using the radeon driver should be directed to the radeon discussion thread.

As for your issue, when you were trying to get this to work with AMD Catalyst, were you using the packages with PowerXpress support (or something else to manage the Hybrid Graphics)?

You need to install them, as the listed dependencies of the two packages also have quite a few dependencies themselves.

Quick question: GPU overclocking with the oss driver, I couldn't find any information about it, so am I right to assume that it isn't currently supported ?

If you're talking about the radeon driver, there's rockclock, but I've never used it.

Vi0L0 does maintain the amdoverdrivectrl package for AMD Catalyst, but I've never used that either.

Rovclock seems ancient, http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Rovclock That page is listing GPU's older than the one I had on my Pentium III system. It isn't even reading my current gpu specs and it's listing it as an "ATI card"..., as the latest thing I could find about it is at least like 6 years old I think I better stay away from it.

I know about overdrive but I'm not touching catalyst again at least until it stops being an unstable mess, if ever, I am looking for similar functionality in the opensource driver, but I guess my initial assumption is true and a thing like that just doesn't exist right now, no big deal.
Thanks for your help anyway.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

xorg-server 1.17 renders some nasty segfault on catalyst, for now here's [xorg116] repo:

[xorg116]
# uncomment one Server from the list below:
#Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/xorg116/$arch
#Server = http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/archlinux-catalyst/repo/xorg116/$arch
#Server = http://mirror.hactar.bz/Vi0L0/xorg116/$arch

As always and like wiki says: "Remember to add the chosen repository above all other repositories in pacman.conf"

I'm getting some render problems since last mesa driver update, especially using chromium.
I'm using catalyst-hd234k propietary drivers and xorg112 as well.
My system is up-to-date.

Given AMD's history, let's assume we don't have x.Org 1.17 support until they explicitly release a version that has it.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Still no news on catalyst field, and no xserver 1.17 support...
But look at the Vulkan, how nice it looks. Or at the Valves developement over Vulkan's driver for Intel GPUs. Great news.
I'm wondering if catalyst would be necessary in Vulkan's world - Vulkan doesn't need complicate driver. And darn - recent version of oss radeon (4.0 kernel + [mesa-git] repo) brings such a nice performance kick, it works almost as good as fglrx on my 290x smile. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but just wow - i can play cs:go or metro:LL on high details and at 1440p cool. Wondering when will cs:go run on oss radeon as good as on windows?
oss radeon was always good on compositing, but now thanks to EGL plasma does seem to work even faster than with oldie GLX. Sweet.

Meanwhile i've updated catalyst 14.12 repos with 3.19 kernel support. And added kolasa's patch which brings 4.0 kernel support to catalyst-test@AUR and catalyst-hook@[catalyst] repo.

Vi0L0, awesome work as always. Too bad AMD/ATI can't match your quality of support. smile
I have also encountered the Xorg.bin memory leak with the latest 1.16/14.12 combo.

Ahh... But can you awake from suspend, using oss radeon? The only reason that I need catalyst is this...

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

When rolling back from catalyst to catalyst-stable due to crashes, I'm getting a checksum error on catalyst-hook-14.12-2 package when using the wirephire repo.
I switched to another repo and it worked.

edit: this was x64 btw.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Trying to update catalyst-hook, I get this:

(1/1) checking package integrity                     [############################] 100%
error: catalyst-hook: signature from "Vi0L0 <vi0l093@gmail.com>" is invalid
:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/catalyst-hook-14.12-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).

Any ideas what might be happening here?
I've downloaded the file multiple times, so doubt it's a bad download.
I've tried removing /etc/pacman.d/gnupg and recreating with 'pacman-key --init; pacman-key -r 653C3094' and then even 'pacman-key --refresh-keys'.
I am reluctant to use 'SigLevel = Never' in pacman.conf, as everything was working fine until this update.

Any help would be appreciated.

14.12-3 seems to be in the catalyst repository, but not in catalyst-stable. So I switched from catalyst-stable to catalyst, and now 14.12-3 installs without trouble.

Thanks!

I'm ignorant about how pulseaudio works, but it still can't handle latencies, buffer sizes etc. by itself? For the longest time it "just worked", but now they are beginning to break it again?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Hey,

I'm having trouble with catalyst pxp. Whatever I do, Xorg crashes with a segmentation fault when the AMD driver is enabled.

My system:
- Lenovo ThinkPad S531
- 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09)
- 01:00.0 Display controller [0380]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M] [1002:6660]

So I think, catalyst-total-pxp (from AUR) is the right choice. I've also downgraded the xorg packages to the version from the xorg116 repository.

After the installation of catalyst-total-pxp, Xorg crashes with the following message (AMD is enabled with pxp_switch_catalyst):

Mar 12 14:37:07 lenovo gdm-Xorg-:0[483]: /usr/bin/Xorg.bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/updates/extensions/libglx.so: undefined symbol: LoadExtension

which probably appears because I'm using GDM. The error disappears after the patch from Oliver Chang.

But now, with xf86-video-intel-git from AUR (latest version), I get (I think the last part is most important):

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Try what I did: use Xorg 1.15. Yes, it's even older, but that was the only way to make Catalyst 14.12 work on my HP pxp laptop.
Hell, am wondering should I even bother to try this 15.04 pre-release.
