I just switched to Awesome(-git) from Openbox. Also changed Xfce4-terminal to Roxterm. I'm still a bit lost with the config file, but at least it keeps me interested smile.

BTW, it seems, that xfce4 is getting more popular, I quite often read that people are switching from kde4 to xfce4. Interesting. And even in the
other screenshots (with openbox for example) I can thunar quite often. Looks like xfce4 is getting more and more popular.

Not to buck a good trend, I've got XFCE and Openbox. The panel needs some TLC.

Sorry I'm a bit slow with configs, but here they are.
Tint: http://pastebin.com/f6b040333

Anyway, installed awesome, enjoying it, config is heavily based on someone elses work, so don't credit me for it.

what is the function to iconify windows with their true content in the icons?

I think that functionality is built into fvwm.

It's a function you need to call from .fvwm2rc.

code:

#####
# If you use Thumbnails, how big would you like the Icons to be?
#
# Try one of these, from tiny to large: 32, 64, 96, 128
#
# Note that the aspect ratio is maintained, so tall and thin windows may get larger icons,
# but you can change that if it annoys you.
#################
SetEnv fvwm_icon_size 96

#####
# Name:     Thumbnail
# Purpose:  Iconify a window with a reduced screenshot of the application
#           Window, looks really cool.
#
#           Uses FvwmEvent to remove the Icon when deiconified, you will want
#           to remove this if you use WindowStyle elsewhere.
#
#           Thumbnailing example: [6]http://dev.gentoo.org/~taviso/step2.png
#
##################
DestroyFunc Thumbnail
AddToFunc Thumbnail
+ I Raise
+ I PipeRead "xwd -silent -id $[w.id] | convert -scale $[fvwm_icon_size] -frame 1x1 \
    -mattecolor black -quality 0 xwd:- png:$[HOME]/.fvwm/icon.tmp.$[w.id].png \
&& echo WindowStyle IconOverride, Icon $[HOME]/.fvwm/icon.tmp.$[w.id].png, StaysOnBottom \
    || echo Nop"
+ I Iconify

DestroyFunc DeThumbnail
AddToFunc DeThumbnail
+ I DestroyWindowStyle
+ I Exec exec rm -f $HOME/.fvwm/icon.tmp.$[w.id].png

and "thumbnail" in the mouse bindings.

code:

#####
# Mouse bindings.
#################

# Syntax Reminder:
# Mouse Button Context Modifiers Function

Mouse 1 R       A   Menu MenuFvwmRoot
Mouse 4 R       A   Menu MenuFvwmRoot
Mouse 5 R       A   Menu MenuFvwmRoot
Mouse 2 R       A   WindowList
Mouse 0 1       A   Menu MenuFvwmWindowOps Nop
Mouse 0 2       A   DestroyOnHold
Mouse 0 6       A   Thumbnail
Mouse 0 4       A   Maximize
Mouse 4 T       A   WheelToggleShade True
Mouse 5 T       A   WheelToggleShade False
Mouse 1 FS      A   Resize-or-Raise
Mouse 1 T       A   Move-or-Raise
Mouse 1 I       A   Move-or-Iconify
Mouse 2 I       A   Iconify
Mouse 3 TSIF    A   RaiseLower
Mouse 3 W       M   Menu Window-Ops Nop
Mouse 2 W       C   Resize-or-Raise
Mouse 1 W       M   Move-or-Raise
# Reserved for Mouse Gestures (See below)
#Mouse 3 R      A   -

That will put a flat thumbnail on the desktop; first I've seen of angled thumbnails.

Doesn't the KDE4 ugly system tray annoy anybody ? That would be a showstopper for me, for sure....

Well , actually it did stop me of using kde4. But anyways after trying openbox i like it way more, kde4 feels somewhat sluggish even on higher end computers.

Re: November 2008 Screenshots

2008-11-24-2144-showingoff.png

Really long time without posting a screenshot.  Openbox, multihead (non-xinerama).  Programs running are gnome-terminal, firefox, visibility, lal (try it), pidgin.

On the left is an xmms2 client I've written that's pretty much done, just waiting for some more feedback.  It's called absement, you should try it

The colorrific program is a simple ruby/gtk script I'm working on which visualizes colors in any text file (here I'm showing the colors of two openbox themes).  I reported a bug last week which was fixed in the ruby/gtk bindings that make drag and drop work so I'm waiting on that's release in order to ensure it's all working.
