Anything you touch/own should be considered hack-prone.

Restored.

I received an email from another user who also found the guide deleted accidentally during normal editing.
I asked him to file a bug report, and urge the OP from this thread to add comments as well.
This obviously should not happen, and this behavior is relatively new..

Well, i filed a bug report related to this issue on December, 18th
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12494

But im not sure if it's a browser bug or wiki bug. Because wiki warns you when you are  editing a long article.

Re: [Solved]Oops, I accidentally deleted the "Beginner's Guide" wiki page.

Yeah, I just tried adding something to the i18n box and I also deleted the whole article. I can't get it back as well because if I undo and save the page from the history, it comes out empty as well. I tried it in Firefox, opera and arora. They all fail...

sad

It's porbably because of this error:
WARNING: This page is 116 kilobytes long; some browsers may have problems editing pages approaching or longer than 32kb. Please consider breaking the page into smaller sections.

The problem is, that the i18n part is part of the main section. We can both edit subsections without problems but editing the whole article destroys it.

(edit, the page is back, restored by allan.)
How did you do that, Allan??

It has happened again... I don't think it is a browser bug, though: the Opera, Firefox and Arora browsers were tried and they all failed at successfully editing large pages. It seems to be a wrong setting in the Wiki engine.

I rolled back your changes so some of your USB edits immediately before deleting the page were probably lost.

seems to be wiki related, it's always good practive to use PREVIEW before saving people! If the previeuw shows up blank or missing the last bits it's usually good practice not to continue tongue

Re: [Solved]Oops, I accidentally deleted the "Beginner's Guide" wiki page.

Since I am not able to add a new available language of the Beginners Guide in the main Beginners Guide, I might as well post here to see if someone with Wiki superpowers is willing to do so tongue

The Dutch Beginners Guide is nearing completion, so I would like to see it in the "Availabel Languages" section of the main article smile
The Dutch word for "Dutch" is "Nederlands"
The article is to be found here

Re: [Solved]Oops, I accidentally deleted the "Beginner's Guide" wiki page.

Ok, it is definitely somehow related to the length of the article.
Even though the Guide is shorter than it has been in a while, (I separated the Appendix into another article, by popular demand) it is still happening.
As a workaround, avoid hitting the 'edit' button at the top of the article, which loads the entire ~114kb into browser cache. Instead, edit by section.
Still working on a workaround for slipping the {{i18n_entry|Nederlands|Beginners Guide (Nederlands)}} link in...

You could simply re-create the entire page as a workaround.

i.e. save the entire document locally. Then clear the article page, fix the i18n_entry section, rebuild the article structure and then re-add all section's contents one by one

though, you know, if you choose to spend your day doing other stuff I'd understand tongue I might do this myself once we're done creating the dutch guide.
