Re: Midori rocks

Doesn't work here, is this really all you need to do to tell midori to use privoxy?

edit: Ok, I got it now smile

Army:

I hope it's working fine for you now smile

I normally set an environmental variable, that way if I'm using another browser I don't bother with multiple proxy configurations or adblock scripts.

Re: Midori rocks

Installed libsoup + libwebkit + midori (all custom builds ) w/ gstreamer from repos. Latest Midori release is faaast when it is not stumbling and crashing. Easily faster (navigating the sites which I normally visit) than Opera 10.00.4368 and a number of highly stripped and optimized 3.1b3 PGO builds I whipped up recently. Kicks butt across browsing most major news sites, espn.com...

Re: Midori rocks

Uhm, after using Privoxy, Firefox (3.0.9-1) is waaay faster than Midori in terms of browsing - and they are both using it.

So hopefully newest git checkout of libwebkit and Midori will change that.

What do you mean by "stumbling"? Is there a stumbleupon plugin that I don't know about?

Midori seems a lot more stable since the last release... almost usable on an everyday basis now.

Re: Midori rocks

I've only used Midori sparingly, but it does the job as a backup browser to Firefox (Gran Paradiso).  My biggest complaint is the lack of a keyboard shortcut to switch tabs (e.g. ctrl+tab).  Am I missing something or is this not possible?

Re: Midori rocks

The new build made the bottom of the tab bar look ugly for me when there are no active tabs. I do like the way they changed the Address bar progress bar.

Re: Midori rocks

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but I found a Flash blocker for Midori:

http://rightfootin.blogspot.com/2009/04 … nnabe.html

I have only the javascript part installed and it works just like the Firefox version. Just place it in ~/.local/share/midori/scripts

I have questions for everyone. Is there any way to get rid of the "Open a particular location" stuff? Is there any way to get rid of the icons on the tabs? Is it just me or does font rendering kind of suck?

Re: Midori rocks

@Epiphanic: Yes, edit accels in .config/midori.  Then you'll be able to change keyboard accelerators.  However, as far as I can see, Kazehakase seems to be easier to edit/customize keyboard shortcuts/options.  I've been trying to up the max connections and other about:config type options in midori/gtk-webkit, but I haven't been able to figure it out.  Does somebody know how to edit these more advanced options?

I must say, midori is much improved and never crashes with the new release!

The version in the repos has a working spell checker too. It just needs to be defined in ~/.config/midori/config:

enable-spell-checking=true
spell-checking-languages=en

I believe that it's using Aspell on my machine, but I'm not really sure. It's a bit quirky in that it spell checks no matter where I type in a page.

@Nezmer:
So this appears to be a GTK-style accelerators definition file.
Could it be that this is as yet only available in git?

BTW - I tried to find some documentation for the accels file syntax, but failed. Any hint?

For midori the most convenient way is to set an environmental variable

http_proxy=http:///127.0.0.1:8118
https_proxy=http:///127.0.0.1:8118

You can put it in .bash_profile or .bashrc (I prefer profile).

I can't seem to get this to work.
I set the environment variables in .bashrc;
#echo $http_proxy  returns the address, so that seems right, and it gets automatically detected in elinks; but not midori (or firefox)
Am I missing something?

This only works, when webkit is compiled with curl as backend, but it actually uses libsoup now. So simply place

127.0.0.1:8118

into the network section of midori's configuration and it should be ok.

Here's my .config/midori/config

Re: Midori rocks

On my computer Midori work well most of the time ... but ... there still is some website wich often crash like dilidou.com or koreus.com.

I think it's due to "FlashBlock Wannabe" et "Ad Blocking FiltersetP" scripts I added. Is there anybody else who have this bug ? And maybe it would be great if someone know how to solve it ...

I tried midori-git and midori ... they have exactly the same comportment one those web-site...

Thank you in advance.

Re: Midori rocks

Wow seriously you don't have an accels file?  Maybe it's deprecated in the current release, but I've started to use the version in the repos (0.1.6).  You would have to edit it by hand in the style of any GTK accels file.  Might I suggest Kazehakase?  If the webkit integration improves, accels are easily editable; however, I've become accustomed to Ctrl-PGUP/PGDown.

@akira86: I think the Ad Blocking might be the problem.  Also, try to enable "Open Tabs In Background" option, it helped me out.
