I'm having exactly the same problem
It turns out my /var/run/mpd/mpd.pid goes missing
If, after boot, I create an empty mpd.pid file, and give it wite permission for my mpd user, everything works fine again
Does anyone know why the .pid file disappears after a boot?
EDIT:
switched the location of the pid and state files in mpd.conf
pid_file "~/.mpd/mpd.pid"
state_file "~/.mpd/mpdstate"everything seems cool now
would stil like to know why my old .pid was getting removed though...
