You seem to be ripe for a Tiling WM. May I suggest StumpWM? Oops, I just have.

Pretty colours, by the way. And general setup too.

After a long time, and with some solicitation, I finally managed to switch from GNOME, and picked one of my favourite DEs, XFCE smile

Pretty minimalist Gnome desktop with compiz-deskmenu replacing the Gnome menu.  I can't imagine ever being too old to find Calvin and Hobbes fantastic.

That's for v2.3. In v3.1 and awesome-git its c.honorsizehints = false

Check my configs for cpu usage and temp widgets - some are using wicked. Im also using awesome-git but the widgets and c.honorsizehints = false should be correct. In the default config from git config it has c.size_hints_honor = false which didn't work for me where as c.honorsizehints = false did.

I took a look at your rc.lua and functions.lua, and I used the battery, wifi and volume functions, but after coming back from a suspend, my laptop starts slowing down. When I look at TTY1 to see whats  wrong, I start getting errors in functions.lua complaining about nil values. Have you ever run in to this?

I made a custom Awesome theme to (somewhat) match the GTK2-theme, which is ElegantBrit. I have a bit of fever right now so I might throw up when I get better. Oh well.
