It's a Wide Weather screenlet, default theme, matched very nice so I left it how it was smile

Have you tried xfce4-panel? I find that it does everything gnome-panel does for less memory. Your mileage may vary, obviously.

It seems you're right. I switched to xfce4-panel smile

The truth is I've been using lxpanel since recently when update to unstable beta messed things up.
