Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

@daneel971 :  "pager" plugin  from 0.3.9 ?  no pager in this release .. or I miss something ?  smile

@ShadowKyogre : so you want to put the "notification area" in separate popup window ? ( like volume/terminal plugin ? ) .. why not. I add this to my todo list.

Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

I rephrase it smile
Before 0.4.2, 0.3.9 was the last version I tried.
In version 3.9 (and previous ones too, IIRC) there was a pager plugin (misnamed maybe as desktop.py...). In the current version there's nothing similar.
I was wondering if you removed it for some reason or simply forget to place it in the current release.

Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

@ADcomp: No, although that would be a nice option.
tNXVlcg <-- hopefully a more detailed picture of what's going on with uim's system tray applet whenever I use tint2, bmpanel2, or adeskbar. It expands fine cairo-dock, but the indicators are so tiny in these panel's system trays

For every problem, there is a solution that is:

Simple and most of all...wrong!

Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

I really like adeskbar, but it seems to take a fair bit a memory. My computer doesn't have a whole lot to spare, so I'll probably be sticking with Tint2. But, this is still a neat project that I will be following.

Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

The latest version (0.4.2-4) pulls in gnome-menus and pyxdg, jacking the installed size from 700KB to 3MB.  I can't recommend Adeskbar as both the lightest and prettiest any longer.

Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

Depends where you come from I guess. There are 'lighter' panels out there. But if you are after something like awn or cairo-dock, adeskbar is light as a feather, and much better imho smile

In the past week I tried all of them, cairo dock is a mess...awn is much better looking, but oh the bloat...I can see each applet taking it's time loading each time I log in.
If I were to design my own panel it would end up 98% like adeskbar, it's the first one I truly liked!

But, unfortunately I can't switch to it because of some bugs.
I'll post em here hoping they can be fixed in a future release:

1. Notification area plugin crashes:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/adesk/bar.py", line 945, in load_plugin
    widget = plugin.Plugin(self.bar, settings)
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/plugins/systray.py", line 48, in __init__
    self.systray = SysTray(display, error, self, bar)
NameError: global name 'display' is not defined
Viewports : 4

2. With multiple viewports/workspaces, if I move a window to a different workspace, the taskbar never updates to display the icon in the appropriate place/workspace.

Not sure if it's related, or harmless, but every time I switch windows I get this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/plugins/tasklist.py", line 457, in window_active_changed
    image = button.get_children()[0]
IndexError: list index out of range

Re: App Launcher - adeskbar

Hi.
A problem started after today's update. The plugin "menu" doesn't work. I couldn't find the cause.
This is what I get when I run adeskbar from a terminal and try to add "menu":

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/adesk/bar.py", line 945, in load_plugin
    widget = plugin.Plugin(self.bar, settings)
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/plugins/menuframe.py", line 18, in __init__
    self.menu = Menu_UI(self, bar)
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/plugins/menuframe.py", line 39, in __init__
    self.create_menu()
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/plugins/menuframe.py", line 53, in create_menu
    self.add_to_nbook(menu_tree)
  File "/usr/share/adeskbar/plugins/menuframe.py", line 56, in add_to_nbook
    for m in menu_tree.root.contents:
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'contents'

BTW, ad-comp.be (author's site) is currently down at least from here. You get FORBIDDEN when trying to access it. That's why I can't test if a reinstall will fix the problem.
