Ever tried PekWM?
Hm...:/ must confess I haven't. I mean, I have installed it some time ago but didn't had time to read the guide to configure it the way I like.
Have you? What has pekWM that openbox hasn't?

It has some really nice window placement, resizement, grouping etc. features
Plus nice desktop changing by clicking on the sides of the screen, etc.
But i must say that i like it 'cause it is really easy to configure, basically it's all in ~/.pekwm dir ("Start", "menu" and "config" files)
Anyway it does not have any gui, so you have to set up it with some text editor

WindowMaker runs like a charm. I use it since ages, tried several other WMs, but nothing beats the handling of WindowMaker (my personal experience, I know that other people are thinking different).

It's ugly in your eyes. I think it's slim and elegant.
I don't know why people call WindowMaker ugly, maybe because there is no eyecandy? If you want shadows or transparent windows, then you can user xcompmgr and transset to do so.

Si, parlo italiano. Sono di Ticino (Svizzera) e qui la lingua ufficiale è italiano.
I have installed pekWM. I will try it for a while. There are so many key chains combinations. Do you use them all?
It has a strange window management. I don't understand yet if I like it or not.

I like WindowMaker and I still have it on an old laptop with Slackware. I'm not up-to-date though about how beautiful you might make window frames and those typical WindowMaker squares. I'm tempted to give it a spin, it feels kind of modernly retro.

No i mean the windows lookalike ... i don't use composite stuff ...
The themes are a bit ... too oldy, imho ... but if u think it's beautiful, then it's obiouvsly true, 'cause everyone has its own taste.

You might want to combine that with
xcompmgr -fF -D7
@Ise: You too

I use WindowMaker from time to time as well! I use them mainly on some of my older machines even now!

I think XFCE will keep me satisfied for a little while. I liked PekWM, but I quickly ran out of themes I like and it doesn't work with xcompmgr very well at all. Otherwise it's right up there with Openbox for me.
what a theme for xfce?

That would be Shiki-Colors. You can find it on xfce-look.org

Not sure how you managed the vertical status bar stacks, any chance of sharing your conkyrc?
