Re: April "awesome idea" 2009 Screenshots

looking some of these screens really makes me want to jump onto openbox...what is the best way to get used to using it and still having graphical web browsers and such available?  Should I set it up with xfce or gnome or can I still do that with openbox standalone?  /noob...

I'm not sure which is best to do what I want based on the wikis descriptions...thanks all...some really sweet setups for every tiler and DE...

Your applications will works in Openbox will works just like it does with your actual WM. Only window managing changes.

Hehe I'm well aware of how to generate stats in the bar; I have plenty already.  I was referring to the use of colour in the stats.  It's common enough to use dzen for multi-colour status bars, but I was wondering whether he coded more colour options into dwm.

thayer, apparently there is a patch for coloured status text.

Re: April "awesome idea" 2009 Screenshots

Greetings,

I am just learning, setting up fluxbox, after having been a long time kde user and a short foray into the very window-esqe lxde. I decided to make a a good try with fluxbox because I just love it's tabbing function, and it's menu editing is so simple.

Clean Desktop
th_cleandesktop.png

Busy Desktop
th_busydesktop.png

I don't care for icons and such on my desktop, they just get in my way there lol.

Fluxbox theme: blackened
GTK+ Style: qtcurve
Wallpaper: Some artwork I had lying around lol, running it with the feh method and menu changeable desktop background.
Apps Seen Running: Sonata (I just discovered this, after being a long time amarok user, quite awesome!), Terminal for console, kate for text editor (haven't looked yet for a light weight text editor, on list of things to do; but you can see I have made use of the tab function of fb!); dolphin for filemanager (I am still using dolphin, haven't found a comparable file manager yet. any suggestions?) shaman (i like being able to graphically search pacman, sorry tongue ), and of course firefox and pidgin.

I am still working on it, but thought I'd share. I am right now looking to see about replacing kmail, dolphin, and kate as well as find a way to show the only thing I am missing from kde, weather lol.

You will have to be a bit more specific about the wallpaper
It's either one of these http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=70666 , or http://omploader.org/vMWoyeg/8.png (tile it)
About StumpWM...I doubt the binary would work as standalone..I believe it gets linked against the libs I have installed so there's a change it won't work for you.
I suggest you join #stumpwm and/or #lisp on Freenode and ask those dudes...they're the one that helped me build it in the first place.
[edit] I use Ratpoison in my screenies btw...

i knew it was ratpoison, i also knew you used stumpwm, i see what your saying about the binary too, ill try the irc channel
one question, is it possible to get your ncmpcpp selected song to not have the bar, but instead highlight the text or something? ive dont this with all my other console apps like vifm and such

I did give you the one without the banner too. It's the second link. It's a tiny tile there. Just tile it to the root window using any tiling capable bg setter (hsetroot -tile, feh --bg-tile, etc)
About ncmpcpp: I was searching for the same thing a few days ago. It's impossible I'm afraid sad. Just take the "message_delay_time" as low as possible (mine's at 3)

I've only been using awesome for a few days now, but I really like it. I still don't fully understand everything in my config, but I'm getting close. Kind of generic (I really need a different wall), but I like it.
Stuff you can see:
Conky, elinks, ncmpcpp, Daisuke_Aramaki's .Xdefaults, and The Darkness wallpaper.
Stuff you can't see:
Elegant Brit GTK, gnome-human icons.

Nice work for a few days. May I have a look at your configs (e.g. lua.rc)? Do you start conky in your lua.rc?

Thanks

You can hack the source to reverse the colors (which is probably what's been done in the first place ie reverse the reverse) wink

nvm: i just google it out, thanks a lot, every cool theme big_smile, i have one tip tho, using urxvt with libafterimage (in AUR) and you will have a pretty nice icon instead of the "simple and clean" default urxvt  icon wink
