Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

I had sound pre .28 aswell, but my card was never officially supported so it was quite and lousy.

NOW it is loud and booming smile
Gives a whole new life to my netbook.

Seeming you are a fellow 1k owner, have you tried playing with the fn keys at all?

Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

No i havent. the standard fn buttons work. I'm running xfce4 on here because it runs realy fast and supports DE automount via hal / policykit.

It's a slick little laptop. This last update finally fixed the fps with the intel chipset. whole new laptop on my end as well wink

Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

It's much more powerfull and capable than I thought when I got it, the atom can suprisingly hold its own.

Only 3d thing I have ever done on here was neverball, but that doesn't really count... maybe I should try a "real" game xP

I ended up getting stuck with the 8GB SSD version, there was no 16GB SSD in my country and I didnt want to go for the sluggish PATA 60GB, owel smile

I'm running openbox xP I used XFCE on my old laptop in Gentoo, but when I was thinking of buying this I decided compiling just wouldnt be healthy on an atom with a SSD, so I booted up my second favourite distro and started playing around with different WM/DE combinations and openbox was where I landed smile

By standard fn button do you mean f1 through 12?
I was just wondering if it would be worth getting things like mute (fn + f8) and volume up(fn + f11) / down (fn + f10) to work.

Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

dimming works fine in xfce4 ( fn f3 f4 ). I tried Gnome on here for the hell of it ( normally I run fluxbox ). All fn keys worked in gnome and they came up on the screen. So.. there must be a way to make them work. I just havent screwed around with it.

Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

I have been unable to replicate your successes with the microphone. The only difference I can see between our systems is that I am using Alsa 1.0.20 rather than 1.0.19. Did that update break your microphones?

In case you still haven't figured out your media keys:
-The dimming keys are hard wired. No setup necessary.
-The sleep key is acpi, and seems to work out of the box.
-The power button is also acpi, but does not work out of the box. I don't want it to do anything, so I didn't gather an info on it.
-The mut, vol up, and vol down keys are regular keyboard keys. Their keycodes are 121, 122, and 123 retrospectively. Your DE probably provides a way to do something useful with them. In Fluxbox, it is ~/.fluxbox/keys.
-You might also want to do something with those two keys located next to your alt keys. Their keycodes are 133 and 135. I like to use them to switch workspaces.

I am loving this computer. Very fast, very small, and pretty cheap. Just wish I could get that mic working. I guess I will try again with a fresh start in a few days.

Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

I have upgraded to 2.6.30 and sound and mic still work perfectly. I remember having troubles getting the mic to work, and then at some point it started working with just setting the input source to Line in alsamixer (though I was quite sure I had tried that before).

In alsamixer, if I hit the tab key to move to the Capture section, I have all channels set to 0 except "Capture" (the first one, not "Capture 1"), that I have to 60, and "Digital", that I have to 92. Then "Input Source" is set to "Line" and "Input Source 1" to "Mic". However, I think others have a different alsamixer channels and settings, so this might not work for you.

Re: [solved]hp mini 1000 sound 2.6.29

Digging a bit deeper, I noticed that Alsa doesn't even seem to be registering a device that looks like an output on my card.

Could you post the output of 'arecord -L'?
