Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

Maybe its not so typical,if you think that in other guys with
almost same setup like yours(2 panels and 2-3 plasmoids)
the X consumes about 60-100MB (from a greek linux subforum).
But hey,at least your setup is not leaking!!
I was using 185.18 and now I went back to 180.51 for a try.

We have almost the same xorg.conf(I'm using hotplugging).

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

I asked in the #kde channel on IRC about my problem.
It seems that the problem propably is in the nvidia driver.Because
when I turned off the kwin-effects,xorg's memory consuption went back to normal.

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

I was wrong again. The problem may not be in nvidia driver.
Because the memory "leak" started again.
I also tried with the nv driver(not nvidia).Same
memory consuption again.
In #kde they answered me that maybe something to do with Xorg not releasing pixmaps.
If this is the cause, what I can do?Any ideas?
Is there any xorg forum or something to post for help?

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

I switched to kde-svn again, just to see if it would change anything
and guess what happened!
Everything runs smooooooth and with no huge xorg memory usage smile smile smile
Now xorg is steady at ~63MB!!
I love kde!:)

Thank you all for your help

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

tas0s, did you tried a new beta of kde4.3?
I think it is more stable than svn. you can compile it with PKGBUILD's in abs by changing version and source URL.

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

No I haven't.Unfortunately I'm not so familiar with ABS..
If you can provide me a link for kde+ABS,I would be thankfull(I dont know if is the right expression/word,if not, sorry tongue )!
Now I am using kde-svn packages from markc (he has a thread in this section).
So far everything runs fine  with no crashes.

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

tas0s, so you can try beta provided by chakra project and their kdemod.
there is information about installing packages from unstable repo http://kdemod.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Install_Unstable
the 4.2.85 version actually is the beta version.

ps. you can read about abs in arch wiki. it is quite easy and useful thing. smile

by the way my X in that moment takes 26 mb. that problem appears when I'm trying to launch ~100 applications and then close them. fortunately, I don't need to do that. smile

Is that normal? My X (using KDEmod 4.2.3) usually takes up 350-380MB. I use the Nvidia drivers. Could that be it?

Re: kde4.2+xorg 1.6,memory problem

foolosophy do be honest,I dont know tongue
Take as example my desktop:
KDE 4.3 (svn),latest nvidia beta, kwin effects enabled ,3-4 plasmoids on desktop and running apps: amarok, kmess, ktorrent, kmail, yakuake, firefox, conky.
My X takes 65MB right now.

Other guys said to me that  Xorg in their systems takes 100-120MB.So,I have no idea what is the right memory consuption.
