btw, does anyone know how to get non-ascii characters to show up in terminals in freebsd? like those lines you see in some peoples PS1's, maybe daisuke knows, i believe you use freebsd too.
it may not have anything to do with freebsd, thats why i ask here.
You mean like this? Fonts shouldn't cause any problems though. you can see zsh running in urxvt with profont, and xterm with Inconsolata on my EEE PC, powered by FreeBSD7.2. wish i had discovered atom smasher earlier.

@daisuke, actually i just found out that it is a font problem, it doesnt seem to work with liberation mono. or any mono font that i use.
now my problem is urxvt not letting me use non-mono fonts
/edit they dont work with iconsolata either atleast for me
/edit doesnt work with profont either, in fact it only worked with one font, although i dont remember which one
it doesnt work in xterm

Have you tried mono fonts with xterm? if so, does it work? if it didn't, then i can think of one problem. if you installed liberation fonts from ports, then i assume you also added the fontpath in your xorg.conf.
/edit
then the fontpath is clearly missing in your xorg.conf. all paths are defined in mine, for profont, liberation and every other font that i installed.

you should. else it won't work. give me half an hour. i will upload my xorg.conf over at my dotfiles. simply copy and paste th FontPath section into your xorg.conf. it should clearly work after that.

thank you so much bro,
the font does show though, so i can tell the difference between fonts, but im not sure if that makes a difference
/edit i do have a few fontpath lines in my xorg.conf, here they are
Section "Files"
RgbPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/rgb"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/misc/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/"
im not sure if this helps or not.

Oh yeah, sure. It's Openbox using the GTK theme Ma.Fa.GTK by iamfuss and the Openbox theme black_grass by Marika. The text editor is Scribes and the terminal rxvt-unicode. Conky is using the font Avant Garde (*cough*) and this .conkyrc.
na12 wrote:What icon theme you used here?
Umm... I don't think I see any icons there, but I use the ALLBLACK icon set by Mandarancio.
Daisuke_Aramaki wrote:tjwoosta wrote:Nice setup, mind sharing the wallpaper?
That's from the man manicho himself! Check out his gallery as well. he's got some fantastic artwork
Daisuke_Aramaki is a desktop-customizing ninja. I didn't even know where I got that wallpaper and he did.
Hmm, Avant Garde doesn't seem to work for me, keeps defaulting to Sans...I'd use the version I had but that only does capitals....(using the same xft font name as your .conkyrc too)
And as for manicho, now I know where to look for the rest of the years wallpapers

Still Pekwm, same gtk and Pekwm theme, but new icon set, new wall, and new font.
Third config of the month so far ...
Enjoy (click to enlarge)
Nice one! In my opinion it would be even better if you had some shadows on the statusbars too... think about it

Talking about Conky?
I had shadows on conky before, but I don't set conky as own_window desktop, it shows in pekwm menus...

The default fontpath is clear from your xorg.conf, but the rest for profont, liberation etc. are not defined. If you had built those fonts from ports, then simply copy and paste the following just below you existing fontpath declarations in your xorg.conf. if you don't have artwitz fonts installed, ignore the artwiz entries.
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/artwiz-aleczapka-en/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/profont/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/artwiz-fonts/"
FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/Liberation/"
i have added my xorg.conf in my dotfiles page as well. it's called, FreeBSD7.2-EEE1000H-xorg.conf
log out and restart X, then you can use Liberation or profont at will.

Seeing as this is a screenshot thread, I didn't realize I needed context. Silly me.
Seeing how this is a screenshot thread, why do you comment on someone's indenting (or lack of for that matter) ?
Attitude? I was trying to poke fun at the content of the screenshot. Notice the little smiley at the end?

You're better off leaving xorg.conf alone. Xorg has evolved to a point where
(almost) everything can be dynamically configured.
In fact, I recently removed mine.
Having fonts in home dir serves the dual purpose of easy-management and bit-hacks.
In .xinitrc:
xset +fp ${HOME}/.fonts
For TTF fonts:
# fc-cache -v
And viola! No more font path nonsense
Note, this also allows you to set your own font encoding aliases.

Been lurking around the thread for some time now and it's finally time to post

I'm just using pekwm (with some stiler action when it's time to be productive).
Haha Is that wallpaper from the Ministry of Silly Walks?

Yes, I think it's the gnome-color pack. You'll find it on gnome look.
