How did you get differently colored text into the status bar ?

I have set up dual screens. I have Xfce 4.6.1 with panel-cairo-patch (allows transparent panel with opaque icons and text).
Clean:

Try out xcompmgr-dana from the AUR. It fixed the issues I was having with the normal package.
