Re: [request] xfce 4.2-beta1

Hi

after talking to orelien some standard artwork will be added to the xfce4
packages. Why not as part of the artwork package? Cuz some of the
themes depened directly on xfce4-stuff and would show up in other
theme-dialogs although the can't be displayed correctly without having
xfce4 installed. Currently they will be installed as default, as long as you
don't have your settings already done and your own settings written  in
~./config/xfce*
Those who already have their config stuff can choose the new themes from
the settings manager in
- splash screen (balou engine must be used)
- Windowmanager
- User Interface settings

PKGBUILD can be fetched from here, its again all of the packages although
just three have been really changed. xfce4-session, xfwm4 and
xfce-mcs-plugins:
http://www.justdreams.de/archlinux/down … 1-2.tar.gz

Tell me how and if you like it.

Re: [request] xfce 4.2-beta1

Hi, again.

Probably this will be the last RC of xfce4-4.2 which is scheduled for Dec 19th.
The Artwork has been stripped down to just one theme for each effected
package. There is only the Arch standard Artwork included. every other
theme will have to be delivered in a separate package. The only addition
in this packages is a standard backdrop that fits 1280*1024. On smaller
screens this will be downscaled automatically.

PKGBUILD can be fetched from here:

Re: [request] xfce 4.2-beta1

Hi,

this RC3 happened mostly due to the fact that gtk-2.6 was released in the
hot phase of the release cycle

PKGBUILD are here:

Please spare us your comments if you don't know how to use the tools. It's not like you're giving any useful feedback either. I've installed this xfce rc1 (didn't get around to rc3 yet) without any problems.

Kinduv cool. Looks like a live cd based on knoppix, with xfce.

Also, xfce has an installer! lol. how cool is that!

Re: [request] xfce 4.2-beta1

IMPORTANT: xfce 4.2.0-1 packages seem to BREAK menus in KDE (maybe Gnome too)

I just installed the new xfce 4.2.0 packages and now my menu entries in KDE have disappeared. The KDE Control Center is empty too. This problem seems to have something to do with the setting of XDG_*_DIRS variables, which I do not understand too well.

More people have been having problems with disappearing menus lately. Earlier issues (and solution) are described in this topic:
   http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=6743

This problem is directly xfce related however. After installing xfce4, the output of 'export' (after booting KDE through KDM) gives:

[~]$ export
...
declare -x XDG_CACHE_HOME="/home/jw/.cache"
declare -x XDG_CONFIG_DIRS="/etc/xdg:/etc/xdg:/opt/xfce4/etc/xdg"
declare -x XDG_CONFIG_HOME="/home/jw/.config"
declare -x XDG_DATA_DIRS="/usr/share:/usr/share:/opt/xfce4/share"
declare -x XDG_DATA_HOME="/home/jw/.local/share"

There should be some KDE and some Gnome paths in those variables in there (see topic linked above), which apparently are overridden by xfce somehow.

SOLUTION: Remove xfce4 and delete the temp dirs /var/tmp/*$LOGNAME /tmp/*$LOGNAME. After this 'export' yields output:

declare -x XDG_CACHE_HOME="/home/jw/.cache"
declare -x XDG_CONFIG_DIRS="/etc/xdg:/usr/share:/opt/gnome/etc/xdg:/opt/kde/etc/xdg"
declare -x XDG_CONFIG_HOME="/home/jw/.config"
declare -x XDG_DATA_DIRS="/usr/share:/usr/share:/opt/gnome/share:/opt/kde/share"
declare -x XDG_DATA_HOME="/home/jw/.local/share"
declare -x XDM_MANAGED="/var/run/xdmctl/xdmctl-:0,maysd,mayfn,sched,rsvd,method=classic"

And the menu's are back big_smile. This is (IMO) a very annoying problem though. Could someone fix this?

EDIT: Mailed a bug-report to the packager.
