Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

What are you trying to do?
Having usb stick mount readonly shouldn't make issues, you install to a harddisk which is rw.
It's true you cannot write data on an image file, which is bigger than the image.
Setup will only recognize core db by the way. you need all your custom packages put to the core db file and packages.txt.
Good luck, i'll release a new archboot version tomorrow which should fix the dependencies errors in testing.
Archboot has scripts for what you try to do, which works quite fine.

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/iso/archboot/Cr … -Howto.txt
this one should give you an idea how it could work, you need to change the config files to use a custom svn repository, then you can manipulate it like you wish.
instead of allinone creation you can use mksyslinux on your stick.

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

Firstly tpowa THANK YOU for writing! I will read with interest again in a while.

So: typically, I did do various searches here and with google.
And even MORE typically I believe that I've found the problem right after posting (!!! hehehe) AND now have learned something! um, remembered that is.

The fstab MUST have the UUID line in it and as I installed grub manually completely and had to do the chroot thing etc. ...
Well, I expect that when I reboot I'll be able to pop in my usb with my custom repository on it and finish really nicely!

Best wishes for an amazing Sunday to everyone!

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

I got stuck at the grub install point as well. so just went to google  installing grub   the ubuntu page came up from the forums. on pae two there the about 5 mount steps to chroot or whatever. Anyways that works. And then After a while I remembered to put my uuid in the fstab as well as the menu list.

did a   blkid   (all booting off a puppy stick '128 meg' for copying over some root files from old installation and the menu.list edits (uuid in particular)

Anyways ARCHBOOT is SO awesome running with a repository ON the usb key of all my packages. I installed my system in 15 minutes. SO fast.  repo-add custom repo thing in pacman.conf. I describe it at the other thread on page 3 I think it is. Sorry for the rush here.

SO: when I try to do the grub install FROM my usb stick onto a formatted drive it wants to install to sdb3 which doesn't exist. Though, I've got tons of knowledge holes in my skills so who knows what the smart thing to do is.

best to all!

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

PLAN: to reinstall via arch regular installer via FTP to get 2.6.30 and everything else that is quite new.

I love my usb stick with local repository and ARCHBOOT on it... install takes about 5 minutes for everything. So SO SOOOO cool !

Though I can't just alter the packages.txt file and use the current ARCHBOOT ....can I.... um, nope ...cuse I'm not a guru...right?

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

packages.txt is used for package selecting in cd/usb mode cord.db.tar gz is read by pacman, you need to recreate packages.txt and run repo-add to get a up to date core.db.tar.gz file, then it should just work.

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

Ok!

So,

1) to find out what need to be changed in packages.txt I should check my  /var/cache/pacman/pkg

2) >>> I do not understand HOW repo-add uses packages.txt to create the core database for ARCHBOOT base install.<<<

Already I easily  do repo-add to update my local respository. In the ARCHBOOT case I am updating core database for ARCHBOOT, so I would need to stealthfully replace only what's relevant to ARCHBOOT base install in packages.txt  Especially things like the new rpcbind and module-init-tools. Anything else I hope I find out about of remember.

I keep  my local pkg repo and install from it's location as set in pacman.conf  [custom]  thatshould all be stright forward AFTER the base install with my ARCHBOOT usb stick. (that I made bootable with syslinux as mentioned previously)

OK... still thinking.... it is SO amazing by the way. I have enjoyed larch, archiso, and now archboot and that reinstalling for me is a quick good attainable process I use ARCHBOOT. Things change and a reinstall with my usb stick local repo is most flexible as my system is light.

greatest thanks to all !!!

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

Hello!
So, can I make a clean install with this iso? Using ftp as source?
When will the 2009.06 iso be available?
On the server I can see the directory, but it's still empty.

smile

What about my question?
Is it possible to make a clean install with this iso using ftp as source and get a fresh arch system ready for use?

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

I can't guarantee for any ftp install, this stuff sometimes works and sometimes not, the packages are not so outdated on last iso, only kernel is different.

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

That's the point, the kernel.
2.6.30 is said to have a much better hardware compatibilty/detection.
So in my opinion, a clean install using this kernel version should be much better.
Correct me if i'm wrong!

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

Can't get wireless only install to start:

Kind of important as I'm attempting to do an FTP install with JUST the ARCHBOOT cd and my intel 4965 laptop card.

'iwconfig' shows the card when I go to terminal during the boot of the ARCHBOOT cd.
The boot of ARCHBOOT sees the intel 4965 card though I do get a couple of lines - one that ways smething about

Not using net_device_ops

So, I'm wondering IF I need to load something or whatever else ???

iwl4965   ???

I've tried all I could. Search everywhere.

I had this problem with my rt2870 card, using the 2.6.30 kernel seems to fix it for me, or using the 2.6.29 kernel, unplugging the device then repluggin the device works, but yours is inbuilt. Also if your doing an FTP install the official Arch cd's are preffered i think.

As a side Q. how do i include a paclage from AUR on the CD? I would like to include Broadcom-wl so i dont have to use a USB stick to download the package and install afterwards. I dont need it for FTP install.

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

Thanks. Yeah, I think once an ARCHBOOT with 2.6.30 is available I'll be able to get the module to work.

I thought that it was my inexperience and a bit of a funny with the iwl4965 that were causing the problem.
All I have to go on is a lot of google comments about the iwl4965 AND that when I am running ARCHBOOT I see that 4965agn is not using > net_device_ops   I think it said.

That's a lead for me and I'm still hopingto find out if it simply a matter of somehow LOADING the module manually.

I THINK that the ARCHBOT cd DOES have the iwl4965 in it....right?

So, do I need to load the module at some point????

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

I think I've found a bug in the installer... hmm

I've just updated my old archboot PXE installation to 2009.05-2, but once I boot a computer with it, choose a keymap and a console font, the setup fails to go any further sad

Step to reproduce:
1. Boot archboot 2009.05-2 (32 bit or 64 bit)
2. Choose "Set Keyboard And Console Font"
3. Choose "Set keymap"
4. Select "dk.map.gz"
5. Choose "Set Consolefont"
6. Select "lat1-16.psfu.gz"
7. You get the following page with wrong ASCII graphics and the setup stalls (Ctrl-C will get you to the console):
http://www.billedeupload.dk/upload/file … b0ee38.jpg

I've tested both 32bit and 64bit on two independent machines - both machines had the issue above. I've been using this combination of keymap and console font for years and I'm currently using this combination on three installed Arch Linux systems (all mostly up to date with 2.6.29/2.6.30 kernels).

Best Regards
Kenni

Re: 2009.05-2 archboot "Schmuie" ISO hybrid image and torrent released

I'm thinking yes, that for a lot of us it would be wondrous, yet again, to have a current packages ARCHBOOT arrive while the dmraid stuff is 'in progress' so to speak.... I bet a lot of people like me feel that what we get with ARCHBOOT can't gve you enough thanks in these posts.

The past month with what is now my USB stick and all my packages accessible with add-repo and ARCHBOOT .... wow!
