Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Hi all,

I also adopted the xbmc-svn skins.
Most of them are somehow broken and do not work properly. I had a look at some of them and most are not directly fixable. So I'm gonna disown them all except xmc-skin-rapier which I personally use.
Here the complete list:

* xbmc-skin-aeon65-git
* xbmc-skin-aeon-hitched-git
* xbmc-skin-connected-svn
* xbmc-skin-horizonz
* xbmc-skin-mediastream-redux
* xbmc-skin-minimeedia
* xbmc-skin-transparency
* xbmc-skin-aeon-git
* xbmc-skin-alaska-git
* xbmc-skin-focus
* xbmc-skin-mc360-svn
* xbmc-skin-mediastream-svn
* xbmc-skin-vision2-svn

If someone's interested , go on and adopt them.

Vlad

PS: If noone adopts them, I'll request deletion on the AUR ML.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Can they even be used currently? I tried a recent svn update, and using skins outside of the two default ones seemed to be currently impossible.

No, the xmbc skin interface changed completely and most of the xbmc skins are not updated (yet?) upstream.
I'll update the rapier skin tomorrow.

Maybe i adopt the aeon65 skin. There are some modifications necessary to work with the svn version. But it should work.

I updated the xbmc-skin-aeon65-git package.
It should work with xbmc-svn.

If you want the recentlyAdded script: download it here: http://code.google.com/p/transparency-x … loads/list and put the folder in ~/.xbmc/addons/

Does this come with the awful default backgrounds the maintainer at some point decided to insert in place of the sleek abstract ones? I postponed upgrading xbmc-svn any further due to to skin compatibility, and getting up to date would be nice, but I still use the aeon65 revision from before he added all the blurry pictures.

By the way, does anyone know when the XBMC team is planning to ship the next stable release? I've tried looking for a roadmap around their wiki without any luck.

Good luck, since most devs don't like that roadmap (it has been pushed back several times), and there are still 60+ tickets open wink.

Thank you so much for the link. It does indeed not look very likely they'll be shipping in three weeks as stated, but that's how free software works either way, better releasing a properly working piece of software than to cut features and fixes to make deadlines. At least now I know, thanks to Perry3D, that keeping my good old aeon65 is feasible.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

I agree, I'm just aching to have a stable build smile. It was funny (yet predictable) to see it go from May 31st to half June to June 30th.

I just built the latest revision in the AUR and dropped in the RecentlyAdded.py script. I added one new movie to test since it didn't populate the Recently Added window, I do not get any errors popping up like before, but the windows don't get filled either... The Add-Ons overview says the plugin is enabled, so I assume it should be running.

At least manually assigning thumbnails is working again, makes my library look a lot more complete smile. DDS fanart and thumbs regenerate automatically too now, so I am very happy smile.

Concerning skins:
As I understand it external skin packages won't be needed anymore with newer releases (or near future).
Skins are also included in the new addon framework.

The aeon65 skin is already patched. I added a little patch to the package. But i don't know if this patch works for other skins.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Anyone with Broadcom Crystal HD and a recent SVN? I built 31038 last night after 30874 gave me constantly frame drops and the Crystal HD buffer would never fill, but 31038 even refuses to play media - an ldd -d libavcodec shows unresolved symbols (very similar to this). Going to see what 31021 brings and report back smile.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Anyone knows if setting an ExternalPlayer in playercorefactory.xml works properly? I'm pretty outdated right now, with xbmc-svn 28276, but would like to stay on it for a while. Some few videos will not start, and some have weird slowdown, all of which are old SD encodes. I tried this:

<playercorefactory>
 <players>
  <player name="mplayer" type="ExternalPlayer" audio="false" video="true">
     <filename>/usr/bin/mplayer</filename>
     <args>-fs</args>
     <forceontop>true</forceontop>
     <hidexbmc>true</hidexbmc>
     <hideconsole>true</hideconsole>
     <warpcursor>none</warpcursor>
   </player>
 </players>
</playercorefactory>

When I select mplayer from the "Play with" option from the context menu, mplayer doesn't even seem to start playback, and I crash back into the XBMC GUI. I also tried to set <args>-fs {1}</args> without any luck, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Edit: Screw that for now, I just tried launching mplayer on my HTPC over ssh, and got a library error. A system upgrade will probably fix it. How embarrassing to only think of that AFTER posting.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Well... 31021 didn't bring any improvement - the libavcodec/avutil part was already broken then hmm.

Edit: taking out a few seds that had been left behind from older PKGBUILDs (I hacked my own together) fixed the libavcodec issue. CrystalHD is still a mess though.

* B starts fiddling again.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Doing the full system upgrade made XBMC unable to run (should have seen that coming), and the old 28276 PKGBUILD wouldn't compile any longer. Decided to just take the step and get updated to the current 31021 one, and while it was a hassle, my old aeon65 revision runs exactly as it did on 28276, with the added bonus that all the videos that wouldn't play properly before now work perfectly. It might have been only thanks to the ffmpeg upgrade, but things are pretty sweet now anyhow.

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

That's pretty strange.
The ffmpeg shipped with xbmc seems to be broken. I cannot play any videos here.
I've uploaded now a PKGBUILD (31122) with Arch's ffmpeg enabled and videos work now, but they start playing slowly. However they work.
Didn't try HD videos though.

Those seds were remnants of an old packagebuild, I should have clarified: the libavcodec issues were caused by the sed that I hadn't yanked out smile.

Is there any reason you're using an external ffmpeg btw? I know the older AUR versions used the Xbmc internal one (just like the guy who made the original PKGBUILD), and apparently Xbmc devs think it's bad practice...

I'm still using the internal one, just want to play safe. I'm not criticising your effort, you're doing a hell of a job. Just wondering about the reasons behind your choice. I know the guy who wrote the original PKGBUILD and he uses to document himself very thoroughly, and he decided to stick with internal ffmpeg. I built the same version as your AUR package (31021) and it runs fine (except for some h.264 playback on CrystalHD, but apparently that's a known issue with certain profiles and reference frames).

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

Ok,
Tried this video http://mirror.bigbuckbunny.de/peach/big … p_h264.mov now and it works fine.
As I said before the internal ffmpeg didn't play any videos here. So I switched for testing purposes to the external one.
Actually I see no reason why not using it...

BTW: no problem - please criticize me wink (actually the PKGBUILD)

Re: xbmc-git AUR package: discussion in here please

The internal ffmpeg problems were with older or newer SVN versions? I've been running SVN from 27xxx to 31021 up till now and I haven't had any playback problems whatsoever (I only have XviD content and the occasional DiVX though next to my h.264).

I've got this too.

[tid@kompssd XBMC]$ cd xbmc/cores/dvdplayer/Codecs/
[tid@kompssd Codecs]$ diff Makefile Makefile.new
8a9
> EXTRALIBS=-lz -lbz2 -pthread -lm -lfaad
162c163
<         `cat $(WRAPPER:.o=.def)` $(WRAPPER)
---
>         `cat $(WRAPPER:.o=.def)` $(WRAPPER) $(EXTRALIBS)

Seems to fix the problem (perhaps the -lfaad is enough...)
