Re: [REQUEST] moblin

I don't think customizing the kernel might be the right approach. Seems like there already are customized kernels in AUR for the more popular netbooks. Perhaps customizing the initscripts might be a better approach at cutting down boot-time?

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

Sorry about the lack of replies - been in the wilderness (literally) for the past week...

There is the finit project for arch, with different initscripts, in community contributions. And there are kernels for at least the AAO and the EEE. Other netbooks can probably use them anyway.

It seems that quite a lot changed in moblin while I was away. Just catching up on it all. One of the devs has posted a blog post about how to build the browser, so I'm working on that.

Thanks for this, this was pretty much exactly what I wanted. Boots up pretty much instantly with kernel26-one-dev and finit-arc on my AAO. Too bad KDE is a bit slow to start though, but I guess one can't have everything.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

Τry quick-init as well, it reduced my boot time from 20 secs to 12.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

Might as well, just for kicks, but I doubt there's a noticeable difference since this boots sickly fast.

Would be interesting to see if we could get a netbook repo with stuff like this in it, together with moblin of course.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

xulrunner-headless-hg now builds, followed by moz-headless-services and clutter-mozembed. on my system, moblin-web-browser won't build, complaining of being out of memory. (new PKGBUILDs in AUR)
Also new mutter and moblin-session PKGBUILDs.

Unfortunately, I'm going away for a month, so won't be updating them for a while. If anyone makes any changes to get them to work while I'm away, write them here and I'll add them when I get back.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

Okay, gave quick-init a try. They're about as fast actually, but quick-init overwrites your inittab while finit-arc uses it's own. Should something mess up, I guess finit-arc is the better choice. However, quick-init displays more info at boot, so that could be useful too.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

@alex_anthony: it's probably too late now but you really should put your source packages in a vcs somewhere so anyone motivated can contribute. If you are interested then I'd suggest http://gitorious.org/ as they have a neat "teams" system where a few people can have upload rights... so if you, or any single person goes awol, the rest of the world can continue to incrementally update the source packages.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

I can build binary packages of moblin for arch, and upload in my repo. Contact me if interested.

@LexRivera: that would be good for someone but for me, fwiw, I would be more interested in source packages that work.

@LexRivera: I forgot to ask, did you have to modify or tweak any of the source packages from AUR to get any of them to build?

If you have to install anything else, can you tell me so I can add it.

@alex_anthony: are your currently building source packages available anywhere?

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

most of the ones on AUR work, had to make a few changes. Also a couple of things just seem broken right now. I might consider doing some non-git packages at some point.

atm, replace libccss-git with libccss-old. The current git of nbtk cant use the latest libccss.

new mojito, moblin-sound-theme and moblin-session PKGBUILDs are up

mojito needs some work. It isnt building support for many services.

edit: all the panels are being turned into their own git trees. They've been taken out of mutter-moblin, but not put back up yet. should be sorted soon, but I can't do anything really yet

edit: couple of new pkgs - clutter-gesture-git and eom-git (eom depends on clutter-gesture)
eom appears to be an image viewer, but not sure

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

my PKGBUILDs are now in a git repository on gitorious (although i will try to keep AUR up to date)
git clone git://gitorious.org/moblin-and-gnome-devel-packaging/moblin-git.git
to get the latest copy. The build order is also in there. built packages and the src trees aren't in the git repo (they're in the gitignore)

It would seem like there is something wrong with the configure file, but I have no idea how to fix the syntax. Can anyone help me out with this?

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

I cannot build "dalston", because of

checking for MPL... configure: error: Package requirements (moblin-panel) were not met:

No package 'moblin-panel' found

but according to your list, "moblin-panel" is the second to last package I have to build. So what should I do?

And maybe someone can create a "super package" like xbmc-svn? Would make it easier to build. (build-me-quick.sh doesn't work that well)

I skipped dalston and built everything else in order and then went back to build dalston.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

Sorry, been on holiday, so hadn't updated for a while.
Thanks for the catch - moved dalston and added a dep to make it so

not sure about the mozilla-headless thing - I'm yet to get all that stuff working

I'd be more interested in finding some hosting so more people can just test it. Any offers? just need a bit of ftp space.

Re: [REQUEST] moblin

It seems like mozilla-headless requires autoconf version 2.13 to build, add 'autoconf-compat' to the pkgbuild.

EDIT: when makepkg is run I get a no makefile found error
