Excellent! Reminds me of one of my old Sparc machines at home, which ran FreeBSD with KDE, japanese version. Too bad, the machine is broken now.

Are you doing this in an effort to increase your understanding of Japanese? I'm thinking about making my desktop all Spanish in a few years once I've taken Spanish 3 or 4.

For that precise reason yes. I already know what goes where..so this helps my reading. Doing grammar on the side

Arch's KDE.

I'd been using Awesome for a while, until I decided to give Emacs another honest try. I realized that, although I thought Vim fit in quite nicely with a tiling WM, Emacs would work pretty much anywhere, so I decided to give KDE 4 another try, too. It took me about five minutes to get hooked.

For the most part, everything feels extremely polished. What's more, I've been able to customize KDE to match my Awesome setup almost exactly, so I've been able to keep using the keyboard almost exclusively and not feel any productivity loss!

I couldn't agree more! I've tried tiling WMs, but the problem is that emacs is my tiling WM. I'm so used to the emacs commands for manipulating buffers and windows that a tiling WM in addition to that has always seemed like overkill. If I were cool enough to do everything with bash scripts and vim, then I'm sure I would be much happier with dwm or awesome or the like.

Vim is no doubt the best text editor pure and simple, but I'm addicted to emacs and do everything in it: mail, news, rss, irc, xmpp, calendar, outline, spreadsheet, music management, etc., etc., etc. No matter what system I'm on, I usually expand emacs to full screen and use it as an ad hoc tiling WM. So even though I run openbox, this is what my monitor usually looks like:
