Plain old and boring gnome... Maybe I'll try Xmonad next month on my new netbook smile.

Edit: forgot to mention that this is my new box... finally back on a desktop computer as my primary computer.

Quite a box you got there! 8 cores!  conky is ace. can you lead me to the wallpaper perhaps?

Thanks.  I'm still working on the conky config (boxes aren't the same width as the graphs... grr), but it's getting there slowly.

As for the wallpaper, it's something of my own design; I'll include it in this post as soon as I get back to my computer.

Edit: here we go:
http://jvm.mit.edu/f/graytile.tgz
Because my screen resolution is pretty nonstandard (1440x900 + 1280x1024), I've uploaded an archive containing:
. graytile.xcf - the GIMP source file (making the archive a bit large, sorry)
. tile1.xcf - the actual tile
. flamerender - a configuration that you can load with the Filters > Render > Nature > Flame feature.  I took a small portion of that render for my the abstract effect.

I've also came up with a flame that actually looks a lot like the Arch logo; if anyone's interested in that, I can post it too.

Can you post your ~/.Xdefaults, ~/.xinitrc, and ~/.vimrc somewhere else?  The cached dotfiles version seems to be out of date.  dotfiles.org is down as well.

Is that a conky theme? Do you think you could share it? It looks really great.
