Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing... but to me handicaped would mean that it lost some features or functionality... I haven't seen anything lost in firefox other than load time

This question should not be directed to me, but to those who actually voted "java".

The shit seems to be a slightly changed and repackaged version of the lizard. The only good thing AFAIK is that it opens tabs in background. But it's a shit.

Apple released an alpha gtk version of khtml. I can't wait until it's stable! No more shit! Just a browser.

Ignoring rehcra, because rehcra's goal is obviously to annoy people...

I would say
gcc
bash
vim
ruby (an interpreter is an application)
linux (a kernel could be considered an application)
screen!

damn..can I only have 5?!?!

And I wonder why according to most of you aterm is the best terminal emulator. Rxvt provides everything one needs and takes half as much memory as aterm! (aterm was based on rxvt; what makes it so bloated?)

did anyone even wrote java?
anyways, I think it is a great language!
It's simple, foolproof (well, almost), and it's pretty hard to write code that will render buffer overflows (it is impossible...duh!) :]
Even someone like me can handle java smile

i assumed gcc, bash and linux as essential and already available ... if not, then i have to change my list to add at least linux to it (removing some of the ones of my 5)

Re: Top 5 favorite apps!

@ rehcra
If you are a java programmer (I assume you are not), picking java (and javac for that mather...or another compiler or runtime if you are into other languages) sems to me like a natural choice (I am a java programmer btw)
Almost everytime I start my notebook, I do something with java.. therefor picking java as one of my top five applications is correct for me. Its actually my favourite (together with eclipse... guess what I use eclipse for)

Re: Top 5 favorite apps!

gcc is an application, so is javac....

but java is also an application. Its a virtual machine, mostly used to run other applications.

The thing I absolutely *hate* about phpBB is that it doesn't have an ignore list.

Problem is Sarah wouldn't talk to me if it did... :-D

gst-player has been in my tur for quite a while... eh, it needs some work.  some movies it just doesn't play, and others it segfaults...
