Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

The framerate differences between ioquake and quakelive is a result of them updating quakelive to look "better" than quake3 (ioquake). There are posts on the official forum concerning peoples framerate differences.

If you set r_enablePostProcess "0" it should help.

Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

hey this is pretty cool. I played a game yesterday and liked it.  I used to play q3a often, I liked the nice engine and it's smooth graphics and physics.  It works amazingly well in a browser.

As a software purist I'm not really in favor of the concept but hey this is what people want, and it _is_ easy and nice... (and free. Thanks ID !)

try seta s_mixahead "0.3" - i use ossv4 and had stuttering sound, maybe it'll work for you too.

So you had stuttering sound with oss4 before issuing that command?
I don't have sound at all but I will try it when I get home tonight.

Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

I've tried it with the radeon driver and my HD4850.
1) Looks dreadful.
2) Start firefox with LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 and it looks good. But it is too slow.

Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

Using the proprietary driver for ATI cards works great. I am using catalyst 9.8 with a 4850 and it is smooth and no graphical problems.

Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

Downloaded it and it runs well, but without sound (Nvidia MCP51, OSS), even with the various workarounds that seem to help some.
How would you say this game compares to nexuiz?

I need a sorted list of all random numbers, so that I can retrieve a suitable one later with a binary search instead of having to iterate through the generation process every time.

Same here, works great with 9.8 catalyst.

Sound didn't work for me with oss4 until i installed alsa-plugins and made a small /etc/asoundrc found in arch's oss4 wiki.

The sound was stuttering so had to open the quake terminal and do the set a_mixahead 0.3 command found here.

Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

Had tried it on Windows when it first was made available. Looked good but I had a few issues. Just gave it a run in Firefox 3.5.2 on x86_64 and it didn't miss a beat. Very impressed with how easy it was to install and use. Well done id software! Hope the Linux community gets behind this.

This gave me sound but it's so bad I can't play. Even trying the mixahead thing, still s***. Can't play without sound and I can't get alsa to work on my computer at all so I guess I can't play just yet sad

Re: finally! quake live for linux!!

Just tried it in full screen mode. Didn't think it would work too well on Linux but should have known better. smile 1680x1050 full screen and default settings works like a charm. Also makes it easier to hit those long distance rail shots. smile
