I use Vim now, with a few custom settings but no plugins.
I used Eclipse+PyDev for a long time, and worked great, especially with my Django stuff - I miss the autocomplete, but not enough to deal with installing the Vim plugins to make it work. I ditched Eclipse because I got sick of downloading the updates to it.
WingWare's WingIDE is *excellent*, but is neither free nor Free. If I had the cash, I'd be using Wing.

I've been using Eclipse + PyDev here for a few weeks. Before I just used which ever text editor was handy at the time. I must say that it isn't all that heavy here, it only takes ~180MB of memory with 3 projects open. I don't think that is heavy for a Java app and considering that I've seen firefox double that with only two webpages open it's not bad.
