Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hello, I'm using the radeon driver and the blur inkwin was ok, the same for the small pictures in taskbar, I was using mesa 7.8-dev and all works.
But nearly my blur was broken, and I don't know why. Yes with ati-dri 7.8.2-1 the blur works but I prefer using a newer version for the support of all kwin desktop effect. I add that all my kwin desktop effects and blur worked well yesterday when I installed for the first time ati-dri. I don't know what I did wrong but I guess a file is broken, or a package because my textures are broken, when I launch the game sauerratten they said me that : GLSL error (VS: foggednotextureglsl)
And when I active blur in kwin my windows have this look
1282428402.png
I'm using a transparent oxygen skin, all the green should be a white blur normaly...

radeon/dri2proto-git 20100821-1 [installé]
radeon/glproto-git 20100821-1 [installé] (xorg)
radeon/kernel26-drm-radeon-testing 20100821-1 [installé]
radeon/lib32-libdrm-git 20100721-1 (lib32)
radeon/lib32-mesa-full 20100721-1 (lib32)
radeon/libdrm-git 20100821-1 [installé] (xorg)
radeon/libpthread-stubs 0.3-4 [installé] (lib)
radeon/libtxc_dxtn 070518-1
radeon/linux-firmware-git 20100712-1 [installé]
radeon/mesa-demos-git 20100712-1
radeon/mesa-full 20100821-1 [installé]
radeon/radeon_ucode 2-2
radeon/xf86-video-ati-git 20100821-1 [installé]

And thanks for your helps! (Yeh it's my first post but normaly I just read the forum and send message in the french one^^)

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

You can install ati-dri-git and mesa-full at once?
Arch splits mesa in three parts: ´"mesa", libgl and a gpu specific part (in your case it is ati-dri). Mesa-full from the repo contains mesa, libgl and ati-dri. So, ati-dri-git is useless (and should conflict) if you install mesa-full

I can get passthrough but not 5.1...

I am using ALSA for the sound system, and whatever I do (even playing with asound.conf) speaker-test never outputs on more than 2.1...

Thanks

Actually nothing more than 2.0 sad

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Reading last posts, I wanted to control my opengl version... and this is the result:

OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 (RV530 71C5) 20090101 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL DRI2
OpenGL version string: 1.5 Mesa 7.9-devel

is this normal? or should I have 2.1 opengl version?
but overall the question is... does my R300 support opengl 2.1? My Dolphin wii emulator requires 2.1... smile

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

According to http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature updated today, R300 should support OpenGL 2.1 through Gallium... and now the question become:
Is Gallium included in Perry's repo driver? How can I check if Gallium is running?

Thanks smile

No, it isn't. If someone want to modify mesa-full to support r300 gallium and r600 classic, feel free to post it here. I will adopt it.

I found there is a discussion, here back in this post, that talks about it... https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 31#p775531

According to that, it seems simple to enable gallium, but I don't know how much stable is.
You could try to make a separate package to try, for example "mesa-full-gallium", in conflict with mesa-full... if you have no time, I could try to modify your mesa-full pkgbuild to include gallium, compile and (if ever I'll be successfully, I have never tried! big_smile) send to you...

Do you think it could be a good idea? smile

Nobody know why I don't have blur? Or can you explain me what I have tot do to find a solution. I watch my logs a lots of times and just could fix my locales with xorg 1.8.
I just want to add that with mesa 7.8 I add blur and that I can have blue if I install mesa 7.8 but I loose to much with this solution and I had blur with mesa 7.9 the day before yesterday.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

uhm.... as usual, good ideas come to me after I say or do something... LOL big_smile

I searched yaourt for gallium, and I found this:

1 extra/nouveau-dri 7.8.2-1
Mesa Gallium3D DRI drivers for Nouveau - highly experimental/unsupported
2 aur/ati-dri-git-gallium 20100817-1 (8)
Gallium3D-enabled DRI drivers for ATI/AMD videochips from the git master branch.
3 aur/libgl-git-gallium 20100817-1 (14)
Gallium3D-enabled Mesa 3-D graphics library and DRI software rasterizer from the git master branch.
4 aur/mesa-git-gallium 20100817-1 (11)
Gallium3D-enabled Mesa OpenGL Library from GIT repository
5 aur/nouveau-dri-git 20100412-1 (36)
    Nouveau Gallium3D DRI drivers

maybe someone has already done that for us... but I wait for your response before try!! I wouldn't like to make my pc unbootable for nothing... big_smile

Ho but it's not a problem if you don't boot on xorg, in text mode you can undo what you did^^.
Me I tested this gallium package and it's don't work at startup, now I undertand why, whith my 4850HD...
For my defense I didn't know that gallium is the name of an ATI.

I'm sorry Splashy but I can't help you... I don't have KDE (I run gnome) so I don't have an idea why it could happen... it could be a temporary bug that will be fixed in some next versions...

oO Next version of KDE, a laught! The 4.5 is just release!
Of mesa I guess but I don't understand why I could work it?
And it's not just for KDE, in games I can't show caracters, their forms more precisely. For my exemple in regnum only I showned my drawf, ok without colors but I shown it and others caracters, now I can show just the sword!

You're right, but it could became very annoying trying to make xorg and video drivers working again after playing with them big_smile (in Italian the right and famous words are "sputtanare tutto" big_smile) It's better if I can avoid this problem wink

Gallium is not an ATI card, it's a library developed to enable some advanced 3d features in some graphical chipset (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallium3D)
I think you could not run gallium because your chipset is not yet fully supported according to this table http://www.x.org/wiki/GalliumStatus
But for mine (r300) most of the work should have been done...

I don't know what to say... I can only remind you this is a bleeding edge driver, so crashes and problems frequently happen, this is normal... and you have a newer chipset then others (and me), and may be it's not so fully supported as older chipsets...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Because I guess it's a bug I think other guys should have the same, so where do I have to post to find guys with the same problem as mine?
I thought of ubuntu forum but I'm not sure they are using git repo for graphic cards... On the french forum of Archlinux I don't know I would post, and on the irc channel of Archlinux good guys help me to compile rekonq with qt-devel 4.7 but they're is not so many guys to help me with a git version of a radeon...

yes, of course you are in the right forum! smile May be tomorrow someone will solve your problem, I wish you, I only meant  lots of similar problems happened to me, but I couldn't find a solution for most of the bugs, they slowly disappeared by periodical updates... it's normal
We'll see tomorrow... good night! smile

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hi there!

Same problem as splashy here. It happens with kde 4.5 and git version of drivers (i'm using "radeon" repository)

OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV710 9553) 20090101  TCL DRI2
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.9-devel
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

I suppose it's a bug, but don't know if it's related to kwin or to ati's drivers.

Did someone else (with r300-r500 chips) try the gallium packages from AUR already? I am super curious what the results would be in terms of performance. I don't want to test them myself because yesterday I had to 'chroot' from Fedora to recover my access to Arch after playing with mesa-full-git, libgl-git, xf86-video-ati-git and stuff like that big_smile
